2wd front ibeam axel swap question. NOT 4WD*

They might actually be wider, frame wise. 12 or so years ago, I bought rear disc brake conversion plates for a Dodge van (sold for trucks).and I found that the leaf springs were closer to the drums, making the plates not usable on vans. I had to send them back plus the calipers and all related...

2wd front ibeam axel swap question. NOT 4WD*

I'm guessing ??-91 van axles can't bolt up. They're king pin too, but coil spring and 8 lug

    Weirdest idi van ever?

Mine has aluminum running boards. LOL I actually do use it as a step, so it's actually functional for me. Saves having to set out a little folding plastic step stool.

    Weirdest idi van ever?

I posted it on a FB Econolines group, and besides the typical "you're dumb" replies for me saying it's weird, a few other examples were posted.

    Weirdest idi van ever?

Step aside Centurian Econolines with a dually truck bed... I found something weirder. A pop top camper van with a tag axle. And yes it's an IDI. $8600 in SLC on Facebook. Actually, I saw an 86 IDI Centurian too, for $7k

    Traveller Smurf (Cubey's '89 van)

I came back to the same spot in the woods today (went to an RV park again last night to shower, dump, etc) and the trans gauge was a bit higher. But i wasn't stuck going 10mph behind a truck this time, so maybe that's why, I was going faster (35mph) uphill. Dropped to 2nd manually with OD off...

7.3 Truck Turbo for 6.9 Van

Gen1 Banks on my 89, less the EGT probe. I stopped in the middle of replacing it for a new gauge and took the photo. I knew I'd forget to snap a picture otherwise. I don't know if the transmission dipstick tube is different or not.

7.3 Truck Turbo for 6.9 Van

Seems not, January 5, 2021 was the last time he was on here. You could try DMing him and see if he comes back: https://www.oilburners.net/members/genscripter.25674/ Or use his email contact form: https://www.nickpisca.com/diesel/contact/

7.3 Truck Turbo for 6.9 Van

Beware of trying to make a truck turbo fit a van. You might have to delete the air box and come up with something else. The '85 RV with ATS 085 had a home made air filter hold down that did away with the lid. It was very hard to change the filter. ATS seemingly didn't make a van specific kit...

Comprehensive list of must have tools

I had to use my old HFT one on the RV to charge the steering gearbox (pull the pitman arm) in Idaho in '21. Also used it to remove lug nuts a couple times. The big onan generator was so handy for that. I need to invest in a cordless one now, I guess. I don't haul a generator anymore, but I do...

Comprehensive list of must have tools

Napa/Lisle pulley puller. Fits vac pump (at least for v-belt) and power steering pump (at least v-belt Saginaw). Makes changing out the pulley pretty easy. Mine has been well worth it. HFT sells a similar one now for less money too.

    Hydroboost Conversion

They always want the date and location of the original purchase from me. I have the very faded (stupid thermal paper) original receipt. In the margins, I wrote down the barcode number and such for reference, for whenever it's totally faded. but they can see it in the computer. but calling ahead...

    Vacuum Pump

O'Reilly is expensive, $150 for the SMP one (I paid $120 in mid 2017 for Dorman) but I've gotten two free replacements for that from the lifetime warranty. But if you order online and can wait 3-7 days, you can watch for a 15-20% off promo code, usually shown at the very top of O'Reilly's...

    Vacuum Pump

Actually..... I might actually have a Standard ome from O'Reilly. I can't remember for sure. You don't get to have the box when you do a warranty exchange because they want it to put the bad one in you're turning it in. And I was in a hurry to get it and install it in a shopping center parking...

Talk me out of it, please

Yeah, I have. I'm thinking ahead to this winter, doing a better build in this van. Getting rid of the carpet, putting vinyl flooring, insulating, building shelves along side the bed, etc. It'll all be half-assed too though because I'm not a good carpenter

Talk me out of it, please

If it had been available last year, I'd have definitely gone for it. But now? Nah. I don't feel THAT cramped in the van. Not like I was in the truck camper, so many years ago. It is a good deal for someone who's more capable of fetching it.

Talk me out of it, please

A table and chair is just about all that would go in a tent. Camp stove maybe, if it's cool enough temperatures, or raining. I'm not fond of setting up a big camp but eh if it's for two weeks? That's not as bad. I almost never needed a generator for the RV (except for A/C) after I went to an...

    Vacuum Pump

The Dorman one I got in 2017 lasted a long time. It turns out, it was still good when I exchanged it in '22 for the one that fell apart. So it lasted at least 5 years. The problem turned out to be the vacuum line going to the c6 modulator came loose and was dangling. That's why the freshly...

Talk me out of it, please

Yeah I have previously entertained the idea of a winter use trailer. Also thought about the idea of a very small camper trailer to drag around full time, but I don't like that idea too much. I'd rather drag the bug around and have something else to drive. Also considering a 7x9 canvas tent with...

    Vacuum Pump

The O'Reilly in Cedar City, UT ate the special order shipping because they didn't ever say it was gonna be extra, for a replacement Dorman in '22 when it was still available. The O'Reilly in Kingman AZ just exchanged said Dorman that fell apart 6 months later in April '23 and not many miles for...

My mid range auto one is $93/yr and is about to renew this month. I got a 25 mile tow for the bug during the first year. I get 4x per year, up to 100mi each. i still keep roadside on insurance too as extra since it's not much money, since it's unlimited to nearest shop. i used RV insurance...

I guess I need to focus on improving this van with a better build, and insulation. Probably about $300-500. I hastily threw this together and it's not done in a way that uses space well. So much wasted space. The lithium house batteries need a box built over the fender well, so they're not...

Talk me out of it, please

Seller says in the ad it's ~6' 4" inside. I'm about 5' 10.5" without shoes, so that's fine for me, even with the steel toe work boots I almost always buy.
