    Oil filter and wrenches??

My local Walmart has the Motorcraft powerstroke fl1995 filters for around $12. The filter is larger and holds more oil but will fit an IDI. I am able to remove filters with a strap wrench. I do it with the oil hot, so it may turn easier than cold.

    Glow Plug borescope picture help

You could rotate the engine with a breaker bar and see if it comes to a stop when the piston with the broken GP comes to the top. Possible it broke off long ago and has already left an imprint in the piston. Someone said they fished one out by removing the exhaust manifold. I can't vouch for the...

    Glow plug troubles

You should check the plug between the controller and the GP harness. The two large wires are carrying the load and the connector is known to melt. I bypassed the plug and connected the wires directly.

    Glow Plug borescope picture help

Align the TDC line on the damper with the "0" on the plate. #1 and 4 will be at TDC. Each 1/4 turn of the damper clockwise brings another pair of pistons to the top. 1/4 turn brings #2 and #5 to top. Another 1/4 brings #7 and #6 to top and finally #3 and #8. Divide the damper into four equal...

    One new tire

This has been a good thread. I lube wheel studs with a small amount of motor oil. I don't know if that is correct but they stay tight. The factory dog dish hubcaps really help keep the lugs/studs from rusting

    Sanding the block

If you removed the IP with the gear and cover you made more work for yourself. Rotate engine until TDC mark on damper is aligned. I have heard of someone feeling for the mark with a pick but not had to try this. You will either have the dot or Y at the top, so try and determine witch. Remove the...

    Catch can

Here is my setup. I used a Goldenrod filter with the optional stainless strainer. I improved it by surrounding the strainer with a stainless pot scrubber. I have the Banks adapter on the oil fill and my Hypermax intake accepts the CDR. Hoses are 1". I initially used heater hose but upgraded to...

    7.3 tear down/rebuild (hydrolocked)

When I ordered my cam from Russ he had the option of repairing the fuel pump lobe. You might ask him if he has spares or still offers this service.

Assessing a 6.9 out of vehicle

Here are the serial #s and changes made to the 6.9. If planning to rebuild I would want a block with bolt in piston cooling nozzles. The early ones were press in and may be difficult to reuse and I don't believe new ones are available. Rockers can be replaced with new ones, just more money. The...

Check around the block heater. When mine leaked it was straight down, not toward front, so less likely.

Viton Os, Valve covers and Fuel in Oil

The return cap may not be seated. They take a bit of downward pressure and you should hear a click. I have used a socket and extension to tap with a hammer, but too much force can break the cap. I made that mistake once.

    Excessive Blowby/Crankcase pressure.

I posted this setup in another thread. Goldenrod filters have a stainless steel strainer that can be used in place of the paper filter. After this picture I improved it by adding stainless pot scrubber on the outside of the stainless strainer. Hose and fittings are 1". I initially used heater...

    Proper timing equipment?

Not sure I understand your question. The front damper has a groove in it and the timing cover has a line with a "0" aligned with the lower tube. When the "0" and the groove are lined up #1 and #4 are at TDC. Our timing is advanced so the injection is some degree before TDC. To change timing the...

    Proper timing equipment?

The pulse adapter triggers your timing light when #1 injector gets fuel injected. You need an adjustable advance timing light to dial in the degree of advance you want.
