    Trouble shooting new brake system

real hard pedal makes me think something with the booster is not right. Its not getting enough flow or pressure from the pump, or maybe something is blocked? or maybe bad out of the box. It happens from time to time.

I believe @hacked89 is running without a radiator in a demolition derby.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Interesting. I wonder if it was one issue or just as other people have said his approach and manner of speaking to others on here really didn't fit our culture. As others have said he seemed knowledgeable, to bad he couldn't share it in a less condescending way.

So what did you do with your truck today?

By the way. where has he been? I haven't seen his doom and gloom on here for a while.

    Project Little Foot

when I had no brake lights or dash lights, it was because my headlight switch was melted. Not sure if your '86 has the same issues as the OBS years with too much current going through the switch, but it is a common problem with the later years.

So what did you do with your truck today?

What these two said. I didnt mean a heat gun, heating up a bolt with a torch or using a soldering iron to melt holes through. supposed to be easier and no fraying.

So what did you do with your truck today?

For the carpet, lay out in the sun and let it get warm. it will lay down a lot nicer in the cab that way. I also seem to remember reading about using some sort of heating tool to bun the holes in it, Instead of using a knife to cut. Not sure if a soldering iron would get hot enough or not. I...

    Pre Swap Considerations?

Never been to Glamis but have heard great things. That has a lot more area to ride than Pismo. Certain areas get crowded and there are always idiots in a crowd, but there should be enough room out there to avoid most of them and still have a great time. As far as California goes, it is an...

    Pre Swap Considerations?

I live about 20 minutes away from Pismo. There is a small section of the beach you can still drive on, but its mostly just an entrance to get to the dunes to the south. Most people still call it the Pismo Dunes, but it is more accurately called Oceano Dunes. either works. They have closed...

1985 6.9 IDI major oil leak, probably rear main seal?

I agree with @IDIBRONCO. My valve covers were leaking a ton of oil, combined with a small fuel leak and it runs all down the back of the engine. I would clean real well back there and figure out for sure where it is coming from. If it is a rear main seal, either the motor needs to come out, or...

    Someone go get it!!!

technically if you are towing anything here in California the speed limit is 55. Now I have never seen that enforced. I have seen it thrown on as an additional charge, but never by itself. Most people have their jacked up new diesel truck, 40' 5th wheel toy hauler over loaded and are doing 75+...

1994 7.3 IDIT oil in coolant

heads can be installed with the engine still in the truck, its just a little tricky because they are so heavy. Especially if you are doing head studs, the back ones can be tricky to get around.

1994 7.3 IDIT oil in coolant

You are running a risk of sleeping outside, because it could be worse, but there has been more than one person who has replaced the oil cooler and damaged the new seals in it putting it together. It could be as simple as the oil cooler is still bad.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Haha I have a '93 Bronco that has been in pieces in my garage since the year before my 12 year old was born. So I know exactly where you are at. Once kids came, time and money became even more scarce. No money to pay someone to do it and no time to do it yourself. We will get to them someday!!

big block chevy fueling for your IDIT+!!

I think this is great. I had a mechanical fuel pump fail and fill my crankcase with diesel, early on with my first truck. Tried several mechanical pumps within a year after that. They could not keep up with a stock IDIT. They would not pump enough fuel and failed very quickly. After that I...

    Head Coolant Flow

Maybe it makes a difference, maybe it doesnt, I dont know in this particular case. But I do know that in many cases engineers make the engine run hotter than what is optimum for power and longevity in favor of running cleaner. Look at the IDIs, they blocked off cooling passages in the heads of...

    Head Coolant Flow

You also have to remember that the engineers on vehicles have a lot of constraints when designing vehicles. Just look at the diesel trucks today. They have to meet so many emission requirements that the MPG suffers. If you delete the trucks reliability, power and mileage all go up. Or the...

    Convert ZF5 2WD to 4WD---Is it Possible?

The Zf-6 is longer than the 5, it takes different transfercases, and I believe it needs a pump to a cooler for the fluid.

    7.3 CA smog equipment

While this is a popular way, California just announced they are really cracking down on this. I know of several people in my area who have been stopped and questioned told if the they notice the truck is local to the area it is big fines...

    y and up pipe

I have one of @IDIoit up pipes. Its great. The only issue and he is aware of this, on some engines, not all, but some, there is some slight grinding on a little bump that gets in the way. For whatever reason some need it and others don't. Mine needed it, it doesn't take much and doesn't...

    7.3 CA smog equipment

There is no smog equipment on the 7.3 IDI. Was the Chevy originally a diesel? If not you may have a hard time getting California to ok this. They really dont like diesels out here.

    Still smoke issue

Someone on here has wired up led lights on the dash to let him know when the converter was locking up and unlocking, and they did something else to, but I cant remember what at the moment. How he did it I am not sure. You would need a good wiring diagram for the transmission harness.
