Fluid to use in Injection Tester

Calibration fluid is also stable if the parts are stored for an extended time. I do have a source that will sell and ship 1 gallon containers of calibration fluid.

    ‘86 6.9 glow plug question

The terminals on the plug for the controller tend to loosen after 30 years. If a new controller is installed the terminals need to be pulled out of the plug and squeezed for a tighter fit.

Anybody familiar with the IH version of this engine?

I would bet the bleed orifice is just an orifice, check valve would only be needed to mask for another problem. Is there a return on the generator, is hooked into the engine return? The electric fuel pump comment got me thinking. How many mechanical lift pump have been replaced by electric...

    k1 kerosene

Looking at a space heater and the manual says to use k1 kerosene, not farm fuel. Any one know the difference between k1 kerosene and #1 diesel fuel? Keep getting mixed results when looking. Some sources claim #1diesel is k1. Best description I have found is k1 is supposed to be low sulfur...

    6.9 rebuilding tips

Talk to your machinist. Matching piston is easy, just a scale. One could make a setup to do rods. Matching the rods are the most time consuming. The rest really is all about the fancy machine and experience, especially if you want to see any significant improvement.

R&d has them listed for 240 for just the second ring, complete total seal ring kit from summit 508. These are 7.3 prices. 6.9 are a special order from total seal, but should be close.

    6.9 rebuilding tips

First of not a budget item, but may pay for themselves.. For the idi second ring is a two piece ring and when overlapped effectively make a solid ring. Nothing really special on cylinder finish needed, still had cross hatch on the cylinder when rebuilt so there was just a quick pass with the...

    6.9 rebuilding tips

Not cheap, not necessary, balancing the rotating assembly. You may think the engines smooth, but once you experienced a balanced assembly its night and day. Also not necessary not cheap gapless ring really helps with the blow-by. I would also replace the rocker arm bolts, there a small size...

92 TBI 454 runs like garbage

Change fuel filter. Check fuel pressures, should be about 13, and a special inline adapter is needed for this. If not fuel filter suspect fuel pump. Coworker just went through this.

    Windshield replacement myself?

Seems odd a body shop would have another company remove and replace the windshield, rather then do it in house.

I want to finally get Gear Vendors unit, have questions though.

While driving home turning 1300 at 65 I had a thought. I backed off the cam for the advance or non advance, A little more timing at low end helps a lot with the loads of double overdrive. Second thought. I also have some special gearvendor e4od black box that I assume connects to the...

I want to finally get Gear Vendors unit, have questions though.

Probably not much help but 3.55 zf-5 and gear vendors both in overdrive works well with a turbo for highway cruising. Don't ask about fuel mileage, I end up just driving faster with the gear vendors.

    A little different banks turbo

61-62mm can't remember the exact number stated. Turbocharger systems out of Oregon did the work. It is cheaper then a replacement from banks if one needs to be replaced. Pluses Bolts right in no difference in dimensions other then the bolts for the drain flange go from 8mm to...

    A little different banks turbo

Picked up a spare banks sidewinder turbo, and finally sent it off. Came back with a little different compressor wheel and a td06h center section. Adds some needed air to fuel. So far I like it.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I know have remote start, providing I apply the emergency brake, hit the remote start button twice, remove the key, exit the vehicle, and kill the engine with remote. More importantly I can set it to autostart every 2 hours. May have to install electric locks just to utilize more of the buttons...

    7.3 return line caps

Another trick is to cut the hose 3/8" or so longer. Then rotate the natural curve of each line in the opposite direction of the next. curve toward valve cover, curve away from valve cover.

    7.3 return line caps

At least with the 6.9 style I have found that plain old fuel hose works real well with the short barbs. The fit is tighter and I do not even use clamps. Most of the over the counter gates or dayco fuel line is diesel rated.
