I have a bag filled with dynabeads and a set of centramatics leaning up against the wall. The beads and centramatic did help at speeds under 65, but neither compares with well balanced wheels.
found a piston inertia force calculator and approximate weight of a idi piston of 1000 grams, 12lb mono them 5444 grams.
idi at 4500 is 2650 lbs average between up and down

6" stroke cummins spinning 2200 rpm comes to about 37 ft/s. Thats with 12lb monotherms pumping up and down not to mention some hefty rods.

Had a stock 454 down to the quadrajet in a farm truck, when pulling 12 head of cattle would always bounce the tach up to 5000 grand going up a certain long hill. Probably would have wound it a bit more with a little more camshaft.
Just wired up the z axis on a $1.99 accelerometer from ebay to my volt meter. Attached a magnet to the accelerometer, then promptly attached it to the front pumpkin and then the closest bolt on the transfercase.

The big switch to the straps was to prevent the caps from getting crushed and lengthen u-joint life under normal conditions.
U bolts torque is only 15 ftlbs and I have only seen them on oversized caps.

If you do not have lockers. Jack up both tires on one side. Place transfer case in 4wd lock in front hubs. If you have automatic hubs rotate rear wheel till front locks in. Mark both wheels in same spot, say 6'o clock. Rotate wheels by hand and marks should stay together. If not the case...

Depends, I have purchased brushes from SAS a "local" starter shop in Montana. If its in Montana its local.
There are a few seller on ebay that sell small starter and alternator parts, last seller I bought from was cssautoelectric.
Check the pitman nut torque after driving a week. The pitman seem to loosen up after driving a while and needs to be retorqued. I would repeat this till it is still tight when you check it.
This keeps gnawing at the back of my head every time this thread surfaces of an easier/less expensive way to make metal caps.
I assuming there is a 4th axis involved, and I have not been able to justify the purchase of one.
