Airdog makes a “raptor 100” lift pump that puts out 100gph and has a regulator that can be set at 1-30psi. It’s around $300 but it’s a pump you can have confidence in.
Cubey hit the nail on the head. Check out this other thread detailing this issue:

As for the failure, are you sure the block and heads are flat in that area? That’s the only thing I can think of, outside of a manufacturing defect. Also, one thing I recently learned the hard way is that fel-pro head gaskets can be accidentally installed upside-down. The “up” side can be the...
I think what you’re looking at is a 7.3 head gasket with the “6.9 cooling mod” done to it. If you didn’t do it yourself, it probably came from classic diesel designs since they add this hole to their head gaskets so they can sell one part for both 6.9 and 7.3. Here’s a screenshot from their...
Ok I figured out why I was confused. The dowel I measured did come from the ZF-5 in my truck, but that’s because my ZF-5 was originally behind a 460 gas engine. So your useless fact for the day is that zf-5s behind 460s use 1/2” dowels, and diesels use 0.335 dowels!
I thought the one I went and measured came from a truck engine, but it must have come from that 7.3 IDI I got out of a boat (no adapter plate) Sorry for the confusion!
I can tell you that the ones between my 7.3 and my zf-5 were exactly 0.5 inches in diameter and 1 inch long. I’m betting that yours are 1/2 inch dowels too, but the lengths are probably different depending on the transmission. They should be available on Amazon and elsewhere, but probably not...
These things are a pain to bleed. I probably pressed the pedal 1000x with my foot, no kidding. You can pull the inspection cover off the bottom to see whether you are getting any separation. As soon as you’ve bled it enough to get it to shift gears, start driving it. The vibrations/movement will...
You are correct, I just went and checked a non-speedo tailhousing and the hole is part of the casting it just isn’t finished drilled out. So the 1356 probably isn’t the issue either, so it looks like the driveshaft itself might be the issue. Anyone have his same setup and can get us a measurement?
One other thing I noticed is that the 1356 has a hole in the tail housing for a speedometer cable. In a 92 truck the speedo should be read off the rear diff, so there should be no hole here. If the 1356 isn’t original, does anyone know if they came with different tailshaft lengths? Maybe this...
I’m wondering if someone did a transmission swap along the way. Try running your VIN through VIN decoder website to see if the original equipment matches what’s on the truck.
If you do buy them, another thing to check is whether a magnet sticks to the top. I’ve heard some say that fake ones are non-ferrous where the wire connects.
I don’t see anywhere where the gasket sticks out enough to have markings on it, but looking closely at the edges of the two head gaskets I do believe it’s installed upside down. I guess I had a 50/50 chance and didn’t get lucky.
I’m leaning towards buying a new gasket rather than flipping one...
I’m doing some work on my truck, including head gaskets, and at the end of a long hot day I realized I torqued down one of the heads without checking whether I put the gasket on right side up or not. I’m definitely pulling the head off again to make sure, but is the head gasket OK to flip and...
Here’s another neat idea: install an oil temp gauge with a toggle switch and two senders. One for the oil temp and one for the diff temp so you can check both!
I have a suggestion that hasn’t been mentioned yet: Liqui Moly Diesel Purge. It’s supposed to clean built up carbon off of the injector tip and chamber. The way you’re supposed to use it is to hook up your fuel intake and return hoses to a container full of diesel purge, and just run your engine...
I’m doing my head gaskets this weekend, and ran into my first trouble when pulling the injectors. One of them came out in half, which stinks but I know what to do. The one I have a question about is this one. Is this a sign the injector isn’t sealed internally or something like that? Would you...
Oh one other thing I definitely recommend replacing is the transmission mount. They’re cheap and a new one will help keep your ZF5 tailhousing from cracking like mine did!
