I was getting ready to do some testing to see why my cold idle isn’t working, and I saw this small box-looking thing just behind the thermostat housing. It has 4 wires going into it, is it a relay? I’d like to know what it is because it looks semi-melted and I’d like to replace it.
Just wanted to let you all know that rockauto has intake gaskets in stock right now! They are listed as “wholesaler closeout” so who knows how many they actually have. Get ‘em while you can!
Here’s a question related to super-duty axle swaps: Is it possible to install the rear wheel hubs from a super duty axle onto an older 10.25? In other words, keep your rear axle and only swap the hubs to have matching 8x170 wheel patterns front and back?
Don’t forget the driveshafts! If the 2wd is clean and you find a rougher 4wd, you can always swap the clean body parts over to the 4wd. That’s what I’m doing :
I think you have your shoes mixed up. When I did mine, the top of both the front and rear shoes had an extra layer welded/riveted to the “frame” of the shoe as reinforcement, and the extra part faces outward when they were installed. If you install a shoe backward, or install a rear shoe on the...
That’s really frustrating to hear, but thanks for letting us know. I’ve had my eye on those lines, but now I’ll stick with the ones I have.
My truck was missing one of the clamps when I bought it, so I made a home-made clamp like Austin recommended.
Is the parking brake pedal adjustment somewhere on the pedal mechanism itself, or do you mean that tensioner thing along the frame where the two rear cables meet and attach to the front cable?
I just replaced my rear axle and installed all new brake parts while I was at it, including parking...
I think goat is right about the sagging door messing up the bushings. I have a set of new pins/hinge bushings that I’ll get around to replacing, they were cheap on Amazon. My door doesn’t sag too bad though, which is probably why my PEX bushings are still holding up after a year.
It’s that plastic bushing, unless the bolts holding the door hinge got loose and shifted somehow. You can make your own bushings out of PEX tubing for a couple of bucks.
The “early” style is a few $$$ more at advance, but my local store has these in stock.

I’m glad it’s not leaking, but it’s frustrating that no shops want to touch it. Maybe look for a shop that works on heavy machinery and agricultural equipment. There are plenty of old mechanical diesels still operating on farms and job sites, and they have to get maintained somewhere. If you...
With a $10k budget you can get a nice truck, at least in my area (Ohio) Here’s an example: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/779409093388574/?mibextid=6ojiHh
I’m betting they backed out. I would use a torque wrench on one of the easier to reach injectors, then grab it with a wrench to see how tight it feels. Basically “calibrating” your hand wrenching so you can get the harder to reach ones close to 35-40 ft lb.
I’m with Bronco, if the wildcard 7.3 is in running condition I’d swap it in. If it’s no good or you can’t get your hands on it, then the next steps probably depend on how long you can afford to have your truck off the road.
Mine was missing as well when I installed my LUK kit. I found another post somewhere where a person in the same situation had called LUK and was told not to worry about it. I installed my flywheel without the spacer/scuff plate and I haven’t had any issues.
Since the problem got much worse with an oil change, have you checked to make sure that the gasket from the old oil filter didn’t get stuck to the mounting surface and interfere with your new oil filter? I had that happen once and it leaked a lot.
