    What caused this electrical carnage?

My plan is to upgrade to 6 gauge wires and use this connector: HYCLAT 6-10 Gauge Battery Quick Connect/Disconnect Wire Harness Plug Connector Recovery Winch Trailer, Pack of 2, Red https://a.co/d/6aRG4F9

    What caused this electrical carnage?

I think those two yellow wires that feed the glow plugs are pretty notorious for failing at that connector. They see a lot of amps, and they’re only 10 gauge. Add some corrosion and those pins heat up like they’re glow plugs.

    OD worth the $ ?

I have a zf5, 4.10 4x4 with 35” tires. I definitely could not live without that 5th gear. 70mph is only 2100rpm in my truck. If I didn’t have holes in the floorboards and missing door seals, I’m sure it would be a lot quieter on the freeway!

    What caused this electrical carnage?

My bet would be the multi-pin connector as the point of failure. That’s where mine failed too.

ZF5 rebuild preferences? DIY, rebuilder, etc.

One trick I found to find good deals on a zf-5 was to search “ford 5-speed” or “ford truck transmission” rather than specifically “zf-5”. People who know the model number tend to know that they can get $800+ out of it. People who are just parting out their truck and don’t know specific part...

ZF5 rebuild preferences? DIY, rebuilder, etc.

I noticed the same thing around here, everyone wants $1000 for a used zf-5 that probably needs synchros. The strange thing is I was having no trouble finding zf-6 trannys for half that.

    Interesting no clutch disengagement

I’m not sure how helpful it is, but here is a photo of my slave cylinder travel on my ZF-5. I have a video, but I don’t see a way to upload it so hopefully the pictures give a good idea.

    Interesting no clutch disengagement

When you removed the pressure plate, did the tongues raise up as you loosened the bolts? Or were they already all the way raised with the bolts tight? I’ll have to get under my truck and look at my slave movement, but yours looked like it should be enough to disengage the clutch.

    Half-azzed paint job advice?

If you do go the rattle can route, a YouTuber I follow called Paint Society has a video on how to get good results from a spray can. He’s also a great resource if you want to learn how to do a professional spray job someday.

    Interesting no clutch disengagement

Also check to see if the set screw on your heim joint came loose and let it slide down on the shaft, effectively shortening your pushrod.

    Interesting no clutch disengagement

What about the little plastic keeper “bushing” where your clutch master pushrod attaches? What kind of shape is it in? Or have you done the heim joint mod? If you have slop in your pedal bushings, you could do the heim joint mod and intentionally make your pushrod a little longer than stock in...

    Half-azzed paint job advice?

I have heard very good things about tamco paints if you do decide to use real spray equipment. That’s what I plan to use when I eventually paint my truck. For the cheap option, my vote is rustoleum turbo black with the US flag stenciled on top using rustoleum turbo white. They do make a...

What are IDIs REALLY selling for?

I paid $2k for an abused 4x4 IDI in non-running condition in Oct 2021. The guy had 100+ messages from other people asking about it. I see average-looking trucks sell quickly for $3500, or take a long time to sell for $6000. That seems to be the range around here (Ohio).

    Interesting no clutch disengagement

Have you checked for play in the pedal linkages/bushings? Since your pedal feels good, it seems like your master/slave are working and the throwout bearing is being pushed against the pressure plate. It seems like you’re just not getting full travel, which makes me suspect linkages or bushings.

The problem with new brake shoes and the parking brake.

I think my truck might have this issue as well. I replaced all the brake hardware last year, including parking brake cables, and my parking brake still doesn’t hold. Plus the brakes seem to lock up / drag when I’m braking while reversing sometimes. I’m going to take a look at this when I get...

Actually I’ll save you the searching on YouTube. Here’s what I was talking about:

    Half-azzed paint job advice?

If you decide to just rattle-can it, take a look at the rustoleum “turbo” cans. They put out a huge pattern the size of a real spray gun, and the cover big areas fast. Just search YouTube for “rustoleum turbo” and you’ll see what I mean. I like the idea of something different for the hood, like...

Fuse box to replace fusible links

I used this one to add headlight relays and an e-pump. It’s not waterproof but I’m happy with it. Whatever you use, be careful of the hood spring clearance when you mount it. The spring comes way down with the hood closed and could smash a fuse box in the wrong place. DaierTek 12V Fuse and...

Zd29s vs Zd9s...for the inquiring mind...

Can you pull one of the undamaged ones so we can have a good look at it? I have always trusted parts from Rockauto to not be counterfeit, but now you’ve got me worried.

    Fuel line help

If you want to replace everything, it might be easier to go to a 6an and/or 8an system. You can buy hose and fittings anywhere, and they lend themselves well to custom setups. You can also buy nylon fuel line and push-lock style connectors for it, but I don’t know if it would work with a...

Another lift pump lets me down.

I know there have been lots of threads on e-pumps, but I don’t remember anyone mentioning using a GM electric lift pump meant for a 6.2. Both engines use DB2 injection pumps, so it seems to me that the GM pump would work for us as well. Has anyone tried one? EDIT: actually it looks like the...

    Normal oil pressures

Just out of curiosity I let the rpms get up high when I had just left my house this morning and the engine was still cold. I got it up over 50psi of oil pressure at 2500rpm. I’m sure my neighbors loved it lol. I’m also running delo oil.

Fuel Gauge pegged - where to start looking

Like has been said, it sounds like you have a short to ground somewhere in your sender wire. I would check each of the sender wire connections for continuity to ground, starting with then fuel selector switch plug. You can narrow it down until you know which stretch of wire has the short. I...
