Yep, and I tend to go quality over price. But it doesn’t always work! Got an expensive Motorcraft water pump for a 7.3 Powerstroke lately, turned out to Made in China. Sent it back and got an Airtex made in USA. It is getting tough, Cummins is worldwide for sure.
I was able to pull the alternator harness off of a 96 F250 with a 460. Made the electrical part of the swap like factory. Upgraded the alternator to battery cable and provided the correct plug for the alternator. Only had to make one connection.
1 belt has not given me any squeal or other...
On my personal fleet I tend to change parts by system. So if I change a water pump, I change the hoses, thermostat, flush the block and radiator and take a hard look at the fan clutch. Or if a belt idler pulley goes out change them all.
I was one of those guys with a fleet that was replacing parts proactively. With 120 garbage trucks ranging from new to 12 years old in blocks of up to 30 of one year / body type. Believe me when a trend develops I learned to get on it. Having multiple trucks down at once for the same part didn’t...
I have a search open on eBay for the Snap On MT257 and I see one every month or two. Also the Mac ET18DPM is the same thing, I have one of them. I have a Snap On Lumy Probe set up but lacking a couple parts so never got too serious about it.
Correct. No connection between glow plug controller and temp gauge or temp light.
For the temp light I suspect a grounded wire. The light sender is the bigger one on the left head. If you unplug it and light is still on then you have a short to ground on the wire. Follow it back and find it.
Any time an auto trans fails there will be debris in the cooler. Allison wouldn’t warranty a replacement trans unless a filter was installed in the cooler return line. I always add one to light duty units too. You cannot get all the debris out of the cooler.
So for the 91, since I had a spare new Facet, I installed a second one in parallel theoretically doubling the volume. This works ok but sometimes drops to 4 psi running flat out. Gonna go a different way soon as I can afford it.
I have used them for about 10 years on two trucks. On a basically stock 6.9 with the Facet pump mounted by the tank switching valve. This was good for 4-5 psi light load but 2 psi towing which I seldom did so it worked ok. On my 91 with Banks Sidewinder, improved exhaust and intake and Moose...
I’d like to help convince you not to run a Facet. On the surface the high suction lift, reliability, built in suction screen/bowl and simplicity of installation are all positive. However the flow was designed for a roughly 2.4 liter 4 cyl reefer engine. The 1/8” pipe inlet and outlet should the...
Definitely don’t need to remove anything more. I’ve done this before and don’t recall anything special so likely you just need to relax and take a new look at things.
The portion of the seal that touches the shaft (and housing) do not move there. The seal is made between 2 parts of the seal itself. So the shaft surface needs to be clean and shiny but not super critical surface finish.
My 91 compressor leaked about that much for the last 15 years. A can of gas every spring and good to go. The only problem was I didn’t think about replacing the oil that leaked out and made that crusty little mess. So it locked up. A couple new hoses, drier, and a used reman parts store...
I have been working with Allison transmissions for garbage fleets since 1978. In that time I have spec’d 100’s of new trucks. Allison has a program called SCAAN that verifies speed in gears, shift points, grade climbing ability, ability to start a load etc. I never built a slug. Garbage Equiment...
I believe the conversions are getting done by converting the back of the engine to a Duramax pattern then running that bell housing on the trans. No giant SAE pattern.
On the internal drain the coolant down below the top of the tubes and look in through radiator cap at the tube ends. Solder bloom ( white corrosion) and calcium build up are easy to see but tubes can still be plugged internally too...
On the external I can’t count how many times I have had mechanics tell me a cooling stack was clean when it really wasn’t. If you can’t see light through every square inch it isn’t clean. Sometimes had to pull the radiator, blow out all dry debris before getting it wet and swelling it, then...
Vegas39 your problem is deeper than most and likely a small combustion leak into the cooling system.
To the OP: In cases like yours where even a new fan clutch doesn’t come on either the hot water is not getting to the radiator or the hot air is not getting to the front of the fan clutch. If...
Rock Auto is one place I’ve seen them, I will see if I have invoice, mine came from eBay. Was considering getting an extra since we know the Motorcraft supply will dry up suddenly one day. I’ve put 2 on the 91 in the past 19 years so I figure I’m going to need one more!
If you want to go PSD / Auto you need an an auto donor.
I highly suggest a hard copy of the Ford EVTM and wiring diagrams. I just got some for about $50 each on eBay. There are CDs and such cheaper but way harder to work with, have both now.
The more you keep this a direct parts/ loom swap...
Two things are your friendFor a stuck pipe plug.....vibration or heat. The big thing is to take strong action before something gets rounded off or broken.
First I would find a short stout flat ended punch about 3/8 OD and set it into the socket of the plug. Hit it with a good size hammer like...
