Is there any reason why something like this is totally a bad idea? I'm guessing the obvious would just be reliability especially based on the price point. Does anyone have experience?
I inspected the radiator more closely and it’s leaking from the top middle. It only leaks under pressure and it never makes it to the bottom because it evaporates. I have 3 options:
re-core which is $1000 from my local guy
Aluminum/plastic seems like the Rodney ones are the call for $750...
Bronco - you seem to save the day pretty regularly, thank you.
Makes total sense given how how hot the damn thing is. Looks like the leak is coming from the top middle area. I can't really tell if it's coming from the seam or not though, maybe I need to look closer. Appears there is some...
I just got finished reading about springs inside rad hoses to help keep it's shape, good to know!
There isn't really consistent smoke out of truck. Black when lugging, whiteish when semi going for it. It does puff a bit of white on cold cold starts (30-40 degree range for us Californian's...
Last night I drove the truck just around town. Let it sit running for about 2 minutes came back started driving and it was smoking a bit. Shut it off opened the hood realized the hood insulation had fallen off and onto the engine. Ripped it off tossed it away but figured maybe somehow this...
Everything seems to be getting power to it after using the circuit tester. I unplugged and replugged everything just to make sure the connections were good. The spades don't look new but they don't look terrible. Assuming nothing changes on the next start, time to replace?
I also checked...
I just ordered a new return line kit from Russ because they're leaking slightly and I don't think this helps my case in terms of potential air in the fuel system. It's shipped today so once I replace that I'm going to re-visit the stumbling rough idle right after starting.
In the meantime, the...
I’m not sure how it could be related but now when i start the truck it fires up fine then almost dies right after and just has a funky time for a second. I think the cold timing advance never actually worked and I’m wondering if now it’s trying to? Any ideas? New thread?
The open space on the solenoid is questionable and you're right I should figure out what that is. The solenoid is getting power directly from the battery positive on the southeast corner of the picture. I've tested it with the ice pick just to double check when I was tracing the wires to figure...
I get ya. Learning more about electricity and wiring with each project vehicle.
Whats the alternative option for powering the glow plug harness besides using the solenoid?
Good call, thanks for the recommendation.
This may sound stupid but this is the first vehicle I've owned with two batteries. Is there a certain order in which I should disconnect the batteries?
Thanks for the reply. I'm aware of the issue with the factory glow plug set up. I didn't install this set up so I'm starting to work on figuring out how it goes haha.
It's definitely linked to the starter solenoid for power. I mentioned that the wire going into the button on the left is...
Went to start the truck today and it wouldn't turn over. I noticed that my glow plug light wasn't turning on so I started checking around with my icepick. Wire on the left of the switch was live and the wire on the right coming out of it was not lighting up. I pressed the button while trying...
Thanks for finding the part/part number. I've always been a Napa person but now I'm shopping at O'reilly's who carries the part and has it in stock. I'll buy some before working on it tonight!
The local Napa says I need to buy a whole new caliper so I think when I get around to putting on new rotors and pads I'll buy replacement pins over the internet.
The bottom looks identical to the top so just another pin, I don't believe it's any different. Same procedure if thats the case? I picked up Sta-Lube disc brake caliper grease (permatex was sold out). Won't do the pads this time because I'm doing a trip to Utah Friday. Unevenly wearing but...
Took the wheels off of both sides tonight and they looked like this. I don't see that bolt or "key" and it doesn't exactly look like the images from that thread that was shared. I understand that basically that rusty pin if you will needs to be pinched, pushed through, lubricated and then...
Interesting. I’m hoping this is it and I’m assuming the mechanic was unaware of this. I wonder if this continues to prove the point that unless you have a great mechanic that you really trust, they tend to make more issues every time they work on stuff.
