Installed a new Dorman tach sensor but my tach still won't go past 1800 rpm. What else do I need to check? And please don't say I need to chase the wires all through the harness and into the cab.
From FleetFilter.com:
There have been some online videos and discussions regarding NAPAGold filters now being made in China and hence lost the quality that the NAPAGold has been known for.
True, but that's only half the story because not all NAPAGold have had quality issues:
For decades...
Is a sticky FSS something that might be helped by soaking in ATF? In the past I've filled the fuel filter with ATF and then let the engine run only long enough to fill the IP and then let it sit/soak overnight.
It's been a long time since I rebuilt the front end but a mechanic buddy was helping me and when installing the tierods he had me count the revolutions as I unscrewed the old ones and then install the new ones with the same number of revolutions. As I recall the initial setup was very close...
Well I found some success at a decent price. I purchased some 2" seat cushion foam off Ebay-- https://www.ebay.com/itm/172466180450?var=471314528229 --and boy oh boy what a difference!! I flirted with spending the $150 for a new bottom seat cushion but figured I could do it cheaper. I cut 1...
One of my clients is restoring a 1946 COE flatbed wrecker/gin pole truck and would love to find an underbody toolbox that is legit 40s or 50s era. The toolbox should be functional or at least not completely rusted out. Let me know what ya got.
Truck kinda looks like this...
I don't have the original seat that came with my truck and the buckets have the inflatable lumbar support which of course has rotted out and won't hold air. Anybody come up with a good solution for a little lumbar support? I've tried a variety of pillows, pieces of foam, and assorted items but...
Ring clamps for heater hose and rad hose. I had a ring clamp fail on the lower rad hose and lost nearly all coolant.
Set of v-belts. If I'm far enough off the beaten path I carry a spare starter. Assorted bits of wire and terminals just in case. Spare return line kit. Fuel filter.
So far...
I would assume that as log as the dipstick handle is flush with the tube that you're reaching the proper depth. It would need to be quite a deflection from a glob of RTV to read so shallow, I think. I do squeeze about 13 quarts in mine but the big blue Donaldson holds about 3 quarts.
Yeah, the clip you have looks like the same clip that holds the rim sprocket in place on a chainsaw clutch & drum assembly. They are commonly know as the "Jesus Christ Clips" because when removing them they have a tendency to suddenly pop off with great force causing one to mutter "Jesus...
I know I did not use any thread sealant when I rebuilt my oil cooler. Just paper gaskets held in place with Hi-Tack. I was amazed I managed to properly clock the two ends, keep the gaskets in place, support the assembly with one hand while blindly threading bolts, and not have any leaks--that...
For the last 30 or so years I've lived within 4 miles of known mountain lion dens but never seen one. Bobcats occasionally get spotted and we have a huge one that looks like a boxer dog when it runs away. I frequently work out in the woods relatively close to the dens and occasionally find...
I know a guy who had a great running engine then overheated it and had to rebuild the heads. For some reason when he put the IP back on and tried to get things started there was fuel up to the IP but none to the injectors. The problem ended up being that the pump was seized. So new pump and...
Thanks for the replies. I've been looking for another truck that won't be my daily work rig and a lot of what I find for sale is crew cabs. If I was shorter or just had stubby legs I'd go regular cab but I need something with legroom for taking some road trips. I just feel a bit ridiculous...
How much worse is the turning radius on a crew cab as opposed to a SuperCab? My truck, SuperCab with 9ft flatbed, is just as long as a crew cab and I'm wondering how much difference there actually is in the turning radius. Mine sucks plenty and I'm sure a crew cab is a bit worse with 168"...
Classic Diesel Designs sells a real nice kit to delete the hard line from filter to IP and it's only about 45 minutes to install. Worth it in my opinion.
I suppose one of the next moves would be to run some fuel line from lift pump to a can of fresh diesel and see if the behavior changes. It sure sounds like air intrusion but it's odd that the truck starts right up normally. I've read some folks install a clear piece of fuel line before the IP...
