This is how it's normally done here ...... this one belongs to a customer of mine who moved up to the other end of the island. This is where i got the idea of putting a crew cab body on my 150 ...... it would have been better if i'd had the idea before he moved so i could have got better...
It was a right pita to get the internals of the torque converter out .... thats why it is a bit shallow - next time i would use the plasma cutter to break up the internals of it so that i could leave it deeper.
Yes i think i'll have to do that .... it holds just over 1 litre before it starts to spill over the sides . I have it spinning at a hair over 2000rpm (checked with a photo tach) . If i can get a second laser/323 torque converter it might be easier and neater to cut another one open on the lathe...
What i do in my shop when changing things like waterpumps , open the box and firstly make sure that what you ordered is the right part then i lay it out beside whatever vehicle im working on and as i pull a bolt from the pump i'll place it in the same hole in the new pump. When i've got the last...
The Aussies can be a bit lax when it comes to some of these older rhd conversions ..... i have seen an early camaro with a bicycle chain used to convert the steering column!!! Theyv'e probably used a torque tube across the firewall for the brakes ...... a lot of European cars such as the Ford...

1993 Ford F-250 7.3 v8 turbo diesel IDI fully mechanical injection so no sensor issues or anything like that ,the engine has been fully rebuilt to high performance specifications. It has Mahle ceramic coated pistons...
This is the inside of the bowl .... quick rattle can spray to help the oil slide off the sides !!
Look ..... i have struck oil !!!!!!
Going to need some kind of lid for this sucker ..... even though the top of the fuge is 12 inches below the lip on the bowl , shit just goes...
I've Been fascinated with alternative fuels for quite some time now .... built a HHO system that i currently have in my truck and have had various diesels over the last 30 odd years.
When i joined up with oilburners , i noticed a thing called WMO which has really caught my interest ...
Is there excessive smoke? - fwiw i've seen this before on a 4.0 diesel 60 series landcruiser that a customer had built up but couldn't get to go properly ...... looked for simple things first and discovered that he'd left a rag in the airbox and it was covering 3/4 of the air filter.
You forgot "doona" :) :)
And if you really want to confuse things try work out why the Aussies call jandals , flipflops , or slops a pair of thongs ..... how you can get a set of womens fancy knickers mixed up with footwear is a question only an Aussie could answer !!! :)
We've had them here for years now , transits as well. They go really well when they are newer but at the first sign of trouble just quit it and get a newer one before the repair bills put you in the poorhouse. Courier drivers here have had all of these european vans as well as some of the more...
This is the one i'm building Rob , i've modified a torque converter from a ford laser , using a bowl from an old wringer washing machine and various bits of scrap steel i've got laying around.
There is a section of the forum dedicated to wmo ..... if i was you i'd ask to see the previous owner's setup and compare it to what you find on the forum.

That looks great and congratulations to you on buying a new home. I'm currently building a centrifuge out of a ford laser torque converter and an old wringer washing machine bowl. Are you going to be running the new truck on this?
Just start with the basics .... new plugs , leads , air filter , fuel filter and a coil (use good quality stuff) . Give it a "timing bump" - 1 or 2 degrees and run a good quality gas in it. By far the best thing you will do is that gearing swap though. On edit i see you've already done tune up...
Do you know what weight you are going to be towing? .... seems that with an 8k trailer you aren't going to have much payload
Maybe if you want to be towing heavy and regularly you could ditch the trailer and go for something like the F600 with ramps .... that way you could keep the 350 for...
Not to hijack the thread but who is a good source of new heads for the 7.3 idi? Looking on google it comes up with puredieselpower.com but it's a dead link (to me anyway) or US diesel parts.
Yes it doesn't take long to get used to it - my F150 is still left hand drive and it only took a few days before i was comfortable with it. I t does make the switch to driving on the other side of the road in California a bit more difficult (especially when off the motorways) for the first...
This is what the cost of a RHD conversion adds to the value of one of these old IDI's

Asking $28000.00 with over 1/2 million km on the clock
If you are really stuck you can anneal the copper washers ( as long as they are substantial enough) with an oxy torch - that softens them up so that when you crush them they will seal properly.
Thanks for clarifying that - when i did the hho experiment i wasn't so much concerned with placement of the probe as i was with the differential between hho and standard operation. I have it in the left side downpipe just below the manifold flange on the 5.0 and the hottest i've ever seen it has...
Just a question for you guy's who have pyro's . If the "magic" never exceed number is 1200 deg f , how much difference does the probe location make?
The reason i ask is that i'm piling up parts that i can find here locally before i make it stateside to snag an idi and i'm wondering if i can...
I know it's an older thread but how did you get on? If you haven't brought an engine yet try looking up 1kz-te - about 130 - 140 hp and a bit over 200 ft/lb torque. Those older 2L and even the 2L-T 2.4s were pretty gutless ( i think they were around 80 -90 hp on a good day :)) and the economy...
