Thanks Leroy. I never messed with the internals yet.But I have a core pump in the garage and tomorrow I'm going to give it a look. Thanks for the insight.

    '87 project- next round.

I'm going to have to mess with the timing a bit. Probably all gummed up inside. I ran a jumper from hot to the fuel shutoff valve and got no clicking. After I rapped it a few times with a wrench it started to click. Inside of the pump must need to un goo. In the first post I mentioned I'm not...

The pump might be going. I think it's original to the truck. But only 95k.

    water fuel separator

I've never seen that light come on. Not even at start up. Just saying if he uses it, the possibility is there that it won''t seal again. That's what happened to me years ago.

did that. Half diesel purge and half fresh fuel. Seems like the IP isn't responding fast enough. When it does and it's racing, you let off the throttle and instead of going to idle it dies.

    water fuel separator

yup. on my last '87 i did just that. This time I won't touch it, until it's time for the heave ho.

    water fuel separator

They are prone to air leaks. Pulling up on the loop could let a lot of air in because it doesn't seat well after 30 or so years.

    '87 project- next round.

So I got the truck running today. No smoking at all- surprise. The truck runs, but seems to be a problem with the idle and throttle response. When I manually control the throttle it takes at least an inch in travel to get the motor to respond. Like pushing the pedal down halfway before the motor...

    New project '87 6.9 f250

Ok, some pics and questions. Pulled the fuse panel cover to see what was going on. There are 2 jumper wires coming out of #14 and #15 irc correctly. The one goes to the button under the steering column. The second button wire goes thru the firewall to the starter relay. So the button is...

    New project '87 6.9 f250

Thanks Leroy. I'm halfway with the return lines. Was going to eliminate the return hardline from the pump and plumb it like my 7.3 where the pump returns through the first drivers side injector. I need to either get a cap for the existing brass fitting or go to the plumbing supply and pick up a...

    New project '87 6.9 f250

The truck has been through a little trouble. The odo reads 95k. Now I know that's what's on the truck. Back in "93 my friends dad was having issues with the truck, smoking I think he said. He was told the motor needed to be replaced at around 50k because the block was bad. He didn't know any...

    New project '87 6.9 f250

A friend of mine gave me his father's '87 f250 w/6.9, c6. He was the original owner, and at the time was making some money, so he bought a few trucks. Dad since passed, and the truck has been sitting untouched for 6 years. The hood latch was actually rusted so it hasn't been opened that whole...

sounds like you're getting fuel. you need compression now.

7.3 idi cranks but no start

if your starter isn't spinning fast enough, the motor will not start. If you have a charger with a high setting or assist like an Associated, have it on while trying to start. Passenger side battery.

Front drive axle variations and brakes

I thought axles were only interchangeable '87 to '97. Maybe I just learned something new.

Slow hvac fan speed--and too damn cold

I went out yesterday and pulled a few things apart. The resistor looked good, no broken coils. Byt after I moved a few hoses, I found that the small white vacuum line going to the door in the heater housing had a hole in it. Don't know if that is what it's called, but there is a vacuum pod...

Slow hvac fan speed--and too damn cold

Okay--looked the part up. I guess it's in the fan enclosure. Now I see what you talking about with the coils.

Slow hvac fan speed--and too damn cold

this is one area I have never worked with. Stupid question- where would the blower motor resistor be located, in the fan housing itself or?? Thanks

Slow hvac fan speed--and too damn cold

The circulating fan for the heat seems to only have 2 speeds- real slow and slow. My '97 gasser blows crap out the vents like it was connected to an air compressor. This is in my '91 with the problem. The slider in the control panel is fine, the fan never seems to wind up. Is it possible some...

Fuel selector valve on '97 F350 cab chassis

I think the cab chassis setup is different from standard cab. I have low fuel pressure with the mid tank, and I'm getting ready to replace the pump and filter. Came home one day last week and fuel was dripping from the filler neck. Few days after that my battery was dead. Think the pump is...

Fuel selector valve on '97 F350 cab chassis

Fuel is returning to my front tank while using the rear tank. Overflowing onto the ground around the cap, 5.8 liter . Thinking it's the selector. Problem is I can't find it. I have a dump body on the truck, and the bracing for the pump isn't really blocking anything, so if there is one there I...

The harmonic anvil? Boat anchor? Keel? What is this?

I'm bringing home an '87 F250 6.9 with a c-6 this week, and it has the same thing mounted under the trans. Made me think this is where you hook the rubber band when you want to shoot it, like the balsa wood airplanes.
