    and then she ran away.....

Some runaways can be stopped by cutting fuel. All will stop if you can cut off the air going in. Unfortunately, it's hard to cut off the air real quick if the intake is hooked up for normal operation. A CO2 fire extinguisher can be used quickly if you have one. Though my guess is I wouldnt want...

What is this bolted to my heater core/AC box?

Thanks for the replies. Where does the line that's supposed to hook to it connect? I'll either relocate this one or just make another and stick it somewhere more convenient.

What is this bolted to my heater core/AC box?

I'm thinking this big plastic thing is my heater core/ac box. It has this small thing bolted to it, which doesn't appear to do anything. Maybe its a vacuum pod? That was never hooked up? (Its all covered with spray adhesive where I put insulation on it in the past. Thats why it looks...

Same here. I left the springs attached to the axle. Drilled out the rubber, and beat the steel shell out with a hammer and chisel.

Sorry for not providing a more detailed reply. I absolutely hate typing on my phone. I doubt you'll be able to find the grommet locally - it'll have to come from banks likely.

Well you don't want to just put that on. Now that he has a turbo it won't work at all.

Install complete, home made catch can and intake.

I hated my RDT. I had a 1.25" ID hose coming off the injection pump housing to allow the gases to escape as easily as possible. It still leaked oil through every seal, and the thick smoke that these high compression IDIs produce is rank and attention getting. This setup looks great. The...

Install complete, home made catch can and intake.

That is a great looking setup. Looks very well done. Please post up how it works for you in the future and if there's anything you'd change. I like that air filter setup. Its just like something I've been wanting to make, or buy. Never could find one. I can't pull from the cowl, which...

I've seen them go for $250-400 shipped on eBay which seems like a lot to me, that one is definitely a little expensive.

First ride with boost and exhaust gas temperature guages

He said The probe is in the drivers exhaust manifold. That's the hottest place because cylinders 6 and 8 fire one right after the other. I agree, the numbers seem really low. I would have to suspect the gauge. Are you sure the temp is in F and not C?

    Where to find radiator supports?

Fastenal is pretty reasonable for store to store shipping. They quoted me $275 to ship a 12 valve cummins from TN to AZ, core support would hopefully be a lot less. I see some rust free core supports here in AZ, got one last year for my truck for $40. The yard near me doesn't have many...

How not to do an engine swap (my 12 valve Cummins into 97 F-350 thread)

My machinist advised against sleeving. The way the cylinders wore he is concerned about there being enough material there to support the sleeve properly. And truth is, I'd easily put $3500 into a rebuild with machine work and quality parts (not the lower quality $800 rebuild kits out there)...

How not to do an engine swap (my 12 valve Cummins into 97 F-350 thread)

Thought you all might enjoy seeing how I got the block to the machine shop. It was surprisingly easy actually, I can load and unload it with no damage to the car in about 2 minutes by myself (this is my Jetta TDI).

How not to do an engine swap (my 12 valve Cummins into 97 F-350 thread)

Quick update - the block is toast. Its already been bored .020" over, and cylinders 5 and 6 are scratched so deep another .020" won't clean them up. I could sleeve it, but my machinist didn't recommend that because they wore to one side. I do not want to have to pull this apart again. So I'm...

    will it start tomorrow

Good deal. I hate vehicles that won't start. The coldest my IDI started at was -3F after an overnight soak, and it started really quick. I had a brand new injection pump and injectors, new glowplugs with manual control, decent group 65 batteries and cables, a good starter, and proper timing...

    will it start tomorrow

My bet is no, sorry. Hope I'm wrong. It takes a LOT more than good glow plugs and fuel additive for an IDI to start below 0 F in my experience.

rdt road draft tube i read somethings just need a little more input

I lost very little to no oil out of my RDT. However most of my seals leaked because of running a slightly pressurized instead of de pressurized crankcase (I had a 1.25" ID hose running off the IP gear case). I'd run a oil separator inline, then into the turbo inlet before I ran an RDT on an IDI...

I agree. Never noticed that before. I guess I should have measured to see if it was in spec. I'm doing that now anyway. I am planning on all new bearings anyway. I appreciate the input.
