    Ran hot one time

Going east or west up Cresson? Seriously, east bound is a harder pull than west bound. If it was east and it ran hot by the top isn't too much to be ashamed of. My truck can hit 240 by the top of it if I don't let off of it empty. I'd bet your rad has some gunk in it. If you have the tall...

    Gas caps

That why I like my flat black bed... Evey time I fill up I just put the hose and ball valve in and go back into the shop. When I see it start to spill its time to shut it off.

    Intake is aluminum?

No :( couldn't figure out how to smuggle the whole engine into work to weld it up. No spool gun at the farm

    Dammit Need A Radiator!

Holy cow!! If I had the tall skinny rad I would not pass up a $186 champion rad. Put one in a truck I use to have and loved it

    Intake is aluminum?

I welded up this one at work one evening, turns out it warped on me a little or something because it lasted about 5 minutes after I started the new engine. It cracked the tops on 3 runners on one side. But I looked cool on the engine stand.

    help needed

I have a pretty clean crank and a set of rods for a NA. I know nothing about them. Shipping would be steep from pa to al but I'd be reasonable on the parts

key won't shut engine down, lights for in dash stay on, but everything else goes off

If you did the manual plug switch like that you are still using the factory battery power wires to the controller. Above the passenger side valve cover is the plug that melts and your getting constant battery power to the FSS and it is back feeding the other circuits. If you leave the FSS hooked...

Consensus on 6.9 Head gaskets in 7.3?

I'm about ready to pull my heads and try this. I'm in the same boat as Gary, I found this out after I assembled and installed my 7.3. Wish I would have known then.

Mechanical fan vs. electric conversion....real numbers to compare

First of all I would like to apologize for the high jack I this thread. Secondly, here we go. I have tried adding oil to one, actually I used military silicone based brake fluid. That was about 3 clutches ago. In going to have to find a 6.9 fan and look at it against a 7.3 fan. Then I'll...

Mechanical fan vs. electric conversion....real numbers to compare

Did you bolt it together to lock it up? I've done that before with bolt on style fan clutches but I'm afraid to with the threaded on type, I don't want it to fall off when I shut down or something stupid like that

    slowed down. but not out

As I was picking up a couple drums of oil the other day I realized I haven't stopped in lately here. the good news, the farm truck still see's plenty of WMO. But at rate of 10ish gallons per day I had to do something else so I bought a 2000 TDI with the ALH engine. so far I do enjoy the car and...

Mechanical fan vs. electric conversion....real numbers to compare

Hmmmmm I'm going to have to dig up a 6.9 fan and try it on my truck. Should have one. As soon as I hit a hill with a trailer I watch my temp gauge soar. Usually I'm down to first gear, half throttle and the gauge will bump 240 trying to pull the mountain to get home. Multiple clutches, rads, and...

    Would you trust this hitch

My last truck the PO WELDED some hitch to the bottom Of the frame. And he WELDED a 1/4"x 12" plate to the top of the frame then welded the 5th wheel ball to that. Needless to say that all got torched off Promptly after getting home. The peace of mind having a hitch that will not fail is worth...

    7.3 IDI Knock

Ok I didn't read through the whole thing so my bad if is been said. I had a 7.3 that had a "tap" with 220k on it. I did the same, injectors, checked rockers, timed it and it would quite down when #3 was cracked. Also after a fresh oil change and 2 quarts of Lucas it would really quite down for...

Newbie needs help with his first diesel (Please)

Ah the front hubs and bearings aren't too bad... after you've done 100's of times. I still fight with te wire snap ring on the outside. You'll see what I'm talking about soon enough. On your sending units an 87+ one will work, but the sending unit reads different ohms than an 86. Also your...

    Is there any more black....?

I have heard of the rare and elusive "clean oil" in trucks and I have a 3208 CAT in a large White tractor that stays clean but in my IDI's, even on one with fresh rings, the oil Is black. A little black goes a long way and even though you changed your oil there is still a little bit of black...
