    E4OD ATSG manual ordered...build soon?

It was revised when it was published, which was a long time ago. The two manuals serve different purposes. The basic manual will show you how to build it. The update manual is smaller and just covers how to take an earlier unit to 1997 level.

    E4OD ATSG manual ordered...build soon?

So far I have built one E4OD. It took me about a week, by-the-book. There is an ATSG update manual. The general idea is to build to 1997 level. You need a lip seal installation device. I used a drill press to press one clutch pak. I can highly recommend the Transgo 4R100-HD2 Tugger valve...

    Engine Wiring Question

I currently have six vehicles that run and a couple more in-work. When ever I touch wiring I use that as excuse to get high power circuits out of the cab. Head lights, fuel pump, distributor, fans, transmission,,,. I mount a fuse block and relay bank close to the battery. This is one of my...

When is it time to retire an engine?

Some have added a turbo to an earlier engine. Some have discouraged that. I did it. With a 3.5 rear, a hard pull in third (direct) at about 65 MPH will produce a max of ten pounds. That was enough to seriously increase performance and reduce soot. Am I abusing the engine? Should I try to...

When is it time to retire an engine?

I have no complaint with performance. It weighs 9K# and does what I need it to do. It does not use enough oil to concern me. However: Both head gaskets have small leaks. The valley cover seems to have given up trying to keep oil inside the engine. Rather it dumps it so that the rear air...

When is it time to retire an engine?

I need to top off the water overflow bottle every few weeks, but I don't see any oil in the radiator. But there were the two injectors that looked like a half inch of the tip had been dipped in oil...

Does that ever work with a head?

When is it time to retire an engine?

If I spray cleaner on the gasket edge it blows bubbles. Gases are escaping.

When is it time to retire an engine?

I have an 84 E350 that came with an 460. In 2005 I acquired an 89 for it's 7.3. It was a private sale, I have no history on it. It was a work truck and I believe the engine was original. I have put over 150K miles on that engine. It has been leaking same oil. Not enough to notice usage but...

    Crankcase vent

I don't believe the baffle has ever been replaced. Just before I installed the Mann I punched a single, quarter inch hole.

    Crankcase vent

I acquired an 84 E350 with a 460/C6 in 1993. Over the next few years I replaced the C6 with an E4OD and the Dana 70 single with a Dana 70 dually. In 2005 acquired an 89 E350 for it's 7.3 IDI. I later redid the IDI fuel supply system including replacing the filter with a Racor on the frame...

    Oil in valley pan

Try stuffing the valley with paper towels after cleaning the area. That will contain the oil near the leak point. Drive and check often.

    Oil in valley pan

Lots of things. Mine keeps finding new ways to leak oil. And mine is a van which makes it much harder to see it happen. But that is the only way to find it. Clean the engine, and then make it leak while you are watching. Otherwise you are just throwing time and parts at it hoping...

    Two oily injectors

In 2005 I bought an 89 van for the engine to replace the 460 in my 84 van. The 89 history is unknown, and I have put at least 150K miles on it since. A few years ago I added a remote turbo. The engine uses almost no oil. I just replaced the injectors, plugs and injector lines. Here is a...

    Electric Lift Pump

Are you sure supply pump pressure makes any difference. My van goes from below sea level to 11.5K feet. The engine never had a mechanical supply pump. My supply pump is wired so that oil pressure will turn it on, or I can turn it on when the engine is not running, or I can deactivate it. I...

    Electric Lift Pump

AN is overkill. The only rubber hose I use is a short length from the frame to the block. Everything else is compression fittings. Here are four pictures. The pump is on the frame. I have used a bunch of that type and they have held up very well. The filter with the bowl replaced the...

    Another E4OD question

I long ago put an LED in the cockpit from each solenoid. Light on is solenoid powered but not energized - they are energized by grounding the low side. I too have had shifting issues due to intermittent connections. But the LEDs can give me a definitive reason for the issue.

    AutoEnginuity - cable?

It is not jest a cable, it is a dongle. I lost mine, I called AE, and they sold me a replacement.

    Steel fuel lines

Compression fittings are available in both brass and steel. That one looks like steel. Steel will hold a lot of pressure. And the condition of the paint on the line and union indicates the union has been there a long time, and does not appear to be going anywhere. But there is #7 line on...

    1994 2wd e4od sawp into a 1990???

And, a triple disk with a billet cover only costs a little more than a standard. I was talking to my wife, not paying attention to what I was doing, while pulling a hill, switched out of OD while leaving my right foot on the floor, and went home on a flat bed. It melted the plastic valve in...

Installing 7.3 IDI into E350 Cutaway van: Tough Clearance Issues

I put one in an 84 E350. I stuffed it in the front. It scraped the paint off the valve covers. Not a big deal.

6.9IDI....do I turbo or sell it?

I have an 89 IDI that I put in an 84 E350. I also have a 2001 E350 PSD. The PSD did not come waste gated. I had a local shop build me a turbo that was intended for a 2000 PSD. Since there is no room on the engine in an 84 E350 I put it on the frame at about the end of the transmission. So...

    Advice on installing factory turbo

I put a non turbo 89 7.3 IDI in an 84 E350 and ran it for a few years. There was no way a turbo was going on the engine. So a turbo intended for a 7.3 PSD resides on the frame at the rear of the transmission. It seldom produces over five pounds, black soot is almost gone tho there is grey...

    Replacing rear tank. Advice requested

My tank used to be a gas tank and now it is a diesel tank. You ask how did that happen? I replaced the 460 with a 7.3 IDI. I have two diesels and four gas that run, but I have only one store of plumbing supplies, pumps and senders.
