    Both brass and plastic floats can leak, and then they sink. There is a high pressure point where wire arm contacts the float, and it pokes a hole. I have soldered holes in the brass floats.

    You don't need anything burnt or broken to have it try to go to a gear and not connect. Lack of engagement pressure in that gear will do it. Maybe just an O ring. Soft parts don't last forever.

    Are you aware that the standard part numbering system for V belts is XXYYY or YYYXX, where XX is the width in thirty seconds, and YYY is actually YY.Y in inches? As for the belt flap on the back side, I added an idler pulley from an AC system.
