Just came back in from timing it again. Had my advance on the timing light set at 8 and I was dead on at 1400. I picked up one of those British pulse converters for timing. Still smells like some fuel to me. I gunned it coming from my friends shop ad let out a cloud of white blue smoke. I timed...
Loading up would be fuel- I know. I'm only on my third full tank of fuel since I got this. Going to time it again before I start pulling it apart. I don't feel like tearing this apart again.
Would a bad valve guide cause something like this? I don't know if that much oil gets up top. It doesn't smoke at idle, just when you accelerate kind of hard. Again tonight when I went for a coffee. Truck sitting idling for 5 minutes and when I take off hard, I get a good cloud. Like it loads up.
I was thinking about studding it. But here in jersey they are impossible to find. You see them occasionally but they are missing parts and look burned up. And I don't have cash to go new. Think that sounds right --oil getting pulled into the cylinder from a bad section in the gasket?
My '87 6.9 project that I started back in January was just about done. I've been noticing some smoke under hard acceleration. So I picked up a compression tester; which I probably should have done in Jan. At the time the driver side head was weeping coolant from one corner. I pulled the cover...
Finally had time to clean the old girl up. The chrome was crap, so I blacked every thing out. And being the headlights are so dim stock, I put in a light bar behind the new grill and some fog lights on the underside of the bumper. Paint don't look too bad for a garage job.
Going to have to get out to rt 78 and open it up. Don't want to be around anyone while I'm crop dusting. Seems like the motor is definitely getting looser. The idle dropped a hair and she is getting smoother. Probably getting the last of the old fuel out. On my second full tank.
Yeah, you definitely have to drive it with both hands on the wheel. 65 feels like 65. Not like in a new car and you're going 80, but it still feels slow. You need to be awake. LOL
Oh man. When I get up there in rpm it's like I'm torturing it. Turn the radio louder I guess. At least it has the 3.55's. Putting my '91 up for sale---gonna miss the E4OD. That was nice on the highway.
Hey all. Wanted to see what the max running rpm would be for my '87 250 w/6.9. C6 trans and 3.55 gears. I'm around 2800 rpm @ 65mph. Here in Jersey at that speed I have to stay in the right lane. Don't know if running at 3000 for an hour or so will be pushing my luck. Most of the time I'm empty...
I'm a dumbass. Forgot I have a adjustable advance timing light. Just checked it and wanted to see where I was at currently, and the balancer lines up with the mark at 11degrees on the timing light at 1400 rpm. I tried going backwards past 90 to see if I got any reading and I didn't see the...
Just picked up a pulse timing unit. I don't have timing tape, so I was going to measure out on the balancer degrees. I think I read somewhere 1 degree is a sixteenth of an inch. I have to use the timing light obviously. This for my 6.9. Thanks
No idea, but if you figure it out ,let me know. My dash sounds like it's buzzing at idle. After I get up to speed I don't hear it. Sounds like something is against the firewall. Mostly when the truck is cold.
Any thoughts on these ? There's one going for cheap on ebay. If I could find a pulse setup for sale I would buy it, but not a chance. I think these are obsolete, and also the lumi probe that comes with it is for an oldsmobile. I have a lumi probe from the fox valley setup I bought a long time...
