Can our IDIs use a Powerstroke tach?

According to Isspro, theirs can be programmed to take a pretty wide range of inputs, so they probably could work off the alternator, too. My van has the usual IDI tach sensor on the gear housing, and the signal comes into the cab for the PCM, so it would be easy to tap into that, and the shiny...

    Arctic Ambulance

I've been driving this to work for a few weeks now. It gets TERRIBLE mileage around town, about 7mpg. Is that what I should expect from a 10,000 pound box truck? The drive to work is about 3 miles at 50mph, a stop and then cruise through town at 35, then about 4 miles at 55 to 60. The torque...

Can our IDIs use a Powerstroke tach?

Another option would be a programmable aftermarket tach. Isspro makes them in 3-3/8 size, but not in the easy-to-mount 2-1/16 size.

    Spinning Hub Stud

The Sterling axles are common as mud, you can probably find a hub in your back yard, or a junkyard. For my Dana 70 it took long enough to find a hub and get it shipped that by the time it arrived, I was already satisfied with the epoxy treatment.

Can our IDIs use a Powerstroke tach?

I didn't get a picture of the part number on the existing cluster, but it's not the one I want anyway. Anyone know what's the right pn for a '92-'94 IDI f350 cluster?

Can our IDIs use a Powerstroke tach?

I found a '94 on fleabay, I've asked the seller if it's from an idi. I'll keep looking for a '92 or '93.

I wonder if you could use a cylinder hone to enlarge the hole without getting it off center or out of round?

    Spinning Hub Stud

I had three wallered out stud holes on my van. I smeared JBWeld on the three new studs, jammed them into the holes, centered them as best I could, used lug nuts to hold'em and wax paper to keep from epoxying the nuts in place. It works. The studs have a big flange that bears on the hub flange...

Can our IDIs use a Powerstroke tach?

Yes, in that range, could be either engine. If I could find a '92 or '93, then I'd know for sure, but so far haven't spotted one.

Can our IDIs use a Powerstroke tach?

My van doesn't have a tach. It looks as if it should be pretty straightforward to stick an f350 instrument cluster in there, but the ones I'm finding on fleabay say '92-'97, which likely means powersmoke. If I do wind up with a powerstroke tach, will it work right with the signal coming from the...

So what did you do with your truck today?

We made it home with the parts truck we went after last week. Turned out that the rear wheels wouldn't turn because the C6 was in Park. It was another beautiful afternoon, a nice day for a drive, so that almost makes up for burning an extra 10 gallons or so of diesel. We went loaded for bear...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Yesterday, we made a grocery run. Notable because it was our first little roadtrip in the '94 van. 100 miles to Fairbanks, drove around town for a few hours hitting the stores, then home again. It worked flawlessly. I had driven it to work for a few days, so when we fueled in Fairbanks it had...

Oh, good a simple mechanical speedometer, not the electronic nightmare I'm fighting on my '94.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Today I drove two hours to pick up a bricknose F350 for parts , and came home with an empty trailer. We went down 15 miles of potholes and washboard - that was an hour of driving right there, the road is BAD - spent an hour cutting brush away from the old rig, took two hi-lift jacks and jacked...

    Arctic Ambulance

The old pig rolled like a boat in a swell, so I'm changing the shocks. The rear shocks were needlessly hard, but the front shocks are worse! There is no clearance to access the top nut on the front shocks. I was able to squeak a wrench in on top of the passenger side, and turn the shock body...

e4od, VSS and US Shift intermittent issue

Darn. The connector I found was for the windshield wiper control, not RABS. I've been thinking RABS, but I noticed there are tone rings and sensors on the front wheels. This old pig has 4 wheel ABS! So I was looking for the wrong connector. That ugly chirping squeal turned out to be one of the...
