Trouble with Raylan: low oil pressure and massive blow by.

Obviously(hopefully?), I won't need many of the components on that list. For example, when I helped @Thewespaul pull the engine so we could install studs, freshen it up and and do a re seal, he commented on how clean and tight everything seemed. He went through the heads, checking the lifters...

    Swap cab or swap motor?

Another relative novice here but I can attest to the cramped quarters on the OBS idit. I installed the factory ATS setup on Diego my '90, now owned by @chillman88 . I removed it again to install on Raylan, installing the one from Raylan back on to the '90. I might do a 2' body lift on Raylan...

Trouble with Raylan: low oil pressure and massive blow by.

I should have said the next week or two! Maybe I'm a day or three out now after digging out from a pile of unexpected things. Can anyone give me a reasonable guestimate of the cost of parts for a complete rebuild of my idit? I understand that I won't know the variables until I'm in to it, so I...

Help! Minimum equipment needed? LPHV or old school?

The issue with all the old school as well as hplv guns is that you need quite a large compressor to drive them effectively. The LPLV Sprayit gun that I bought allegedly can run on a lot less pressure and CFM. We shall see...

Help! Minimum equipment needed? LPHV or old school?

Yes, I was poking around Amazon and saw those. There are many options available, but let's see how the LPLV sprayit does first....

Help! Minimum equipment needed? LPHV or old school?

I did a bunch of research, it seems like the air required is pretty slim. But still, I'm a bit worried that my minimal compressor will work for more than small jobs but I'm pondering running a pancake compressor in the mix by adding a additional air storage tank and feeding both to the tank...

Trouble with Raylan: low oil pressure and massive blow by.

I was able to get to HF last night and picked up the recommended compression tester. With any luck, I'll get to use it in the next day or two!

So what did you do with your truck today?

He can handle it. Try 1500 miles pulling a 30ft 10k trailer. Without a turbo:confused:

    new air filter time?

You should be able to find a suitable plastic intake hose at a salvage yard. Alternatively, you may want to ask here buy sell trade section if anyone would have one that would work for you. BTW Welcome to The Forum!

    new air filter time?

While you're fixing it up, do yourself a favor and replace the HVAC/dryer hose with proper factory hose.

idiot light or gauge, which to believe?

It's good to know that before you install your sender on the transmission in the recommend port on the driver side of the tranny! Otherwise, you might find yourself freaking out about the high temperatures until you figure out that the temperatures are substantially higher when monitored at that...

Trouble with Raylan: low oil pressure and massive blow by.

Thanks for your input. I'm pretty certain that my Turbo is fine, it's a recent rebuild from Russ @typ4. No oil smoke out the exhaust and I've still got the low oil pressure to account for...

@Rattlenbang NA or blown? Definitely worth it to have a good engine monitoring. Transmission temperature if auto too.

Trouble with Raylan: low oil pressure and massive blow by.

Thanks for the recommendation! Agreed, HF quality control needs improvement. Judging by how willing they to take returns, it seem like final QC is left up to the end user! That being said, I've also had satisfactory results with the HF "cheap chicom crap"... I'm all for supporting American made...

Trouble with Raylan: low oil pressure and massive blow by.

Chuffing is caused by what exactly? IIRC, from a valve not sealing or damaged? Also remember hearing that it co be a bad injector?? Is that correct? BTW it started right up, as it always does. Cold oil pressure was only 35-38 psi. So next move, I'll pull the airbox and listen to how it sounds...
