    White smoke

Hang on... Once it's warmed up and starts missing, run a jumper wire to the cold advance solenoid wire(the rearmost terminal on the IP), you can just use a clip lead from the FSS(front terminal). How does that change it?

    In case of EMP

No, but I have watched some of his videos. He's a bit more nasty to his IDIs than I am.

    In case of EMP

Fortunately, I'm not the type who you are worried about, because I did(and have) just bypassed the entire system. Jumper to FSS, screwdriver to solenoid, some Ether and off we go! Normal people... would not figure anything out. This is not a bad thing; I also like the idea of a cable shutoff...

    In case of EMP

Also, there are a couple of other ways to do a manual shut off. One of which being just kill it by dropping the clutch in high gear. Idle = little fuel = engine dies. I've done it before without issues. Secondly, if you back down the idle screw, the throttle lever will go far enough down to...

    boost related ticking?

Do you have upgraded valve springs? I ran into a case a few years back overdriving my Banks turbo. Floored it up a hill, got 22 PSI out of it... and motor started ticking/loping. Turns out I bent a pushrod on the exhaust side, due to massive exhaust backpressure - it held the exhaust valve open...

    Reviving a 1990 F250

Make sure to crank it with the throttle floored. That will make sure the IP is sending max fuel to the injectors. (priming at idle is basically a fools errand).

wmo causing metering valve to stick?

One 'workaround' for sticky metering valve / dying letting off the throttle is to find the "guide stud" at the back of the IP. It's usually under a red/gray "do not tamper" cover. Loosen the jam nut/seal nut on that stud, and use an allen wrench to screw in the "guide stud" as far as you can...

    CDD DB4 Pump Build

I'm looking at it thinking that as long as they can hold the tolerances on just a couple of spots, the thing will work. It may be off just enough that it won't produce as much as an original, but hey - If we could replace the head and rotor for, say, $250(which seems reasonable considering...

    CDD DB4 Pump Build

Might be worth asking about a DB2 head/rotor as well? You might try asking somebody like starsdiesel.net - they have a large collection of (made in china) injector nozzles, heads and rotors etc. Also this random post...

    CDD DB4 Pump Build

I'm curious how hard it would be to send one of those DB4 head and rotors off to a shop in China and have them duplicate it. Seems like they can make just about anything else(like injector nozzles) very cheaply and with decent tolerances, and that might be good for a "value" DB4 pump.

    7.3 timing and egt???

Just put the darn mechanical pump back! Add a booster pump if you need, but the good old mechanical pumps have no trouble putting out a consistent pressure(within 2 psi idle to WOT) and plenty of flow at WOT!

Wholly crap she ran away on me

This.... is not wired correctly. On your regulator, you have 4 terminals: I, A, F and S. I - should go through an incandescent bulb(dash light or marker bulb) to switched power. Without the bulb, you'll overheat the regulator and it will draw too much power with the engine off. A - Feedback from...

Slide in camper owners: what's your mpg?

I'll bet your timing is slightly off(probably retarded). The higher in the revs, the less time to burn the fuel, and the more timing advance needed. With a worn pump which doesn't advance as well as it should, you can end up with retarded timing up high, which, of course results in higher EGTs...

    1994 Ford f350 4x4 7.3 IDI turbo 5speed

Sadly, I don't think you'll get that, even for two trucks. Especially when neither of them run. Non running anything takes a massive hit compared to "drivable". Both of these sound like they would need to be trailer'd home. For reference, I'm thinking the value of the '90 is probably in the...

Big gash near oil pan? Or in oil pan?

Yeah, that's normal. My ZF5's came with inspection covers like that. I personally just remove the darned things; I know it lets water and such up there, but meh. Never had a problem.

    What is it?

Also, these trucks are a lot less likely to have issues if you do get water into it. Generally speaking what happens is the engine just sputters and dies(with sufficient water) and you have to bleed it out. None of this "Oh, I got a few drops of water in there... need to replace...

    Engine rattle and white smoke

The timing bolts only have a few degree range(more than that you have to physically skip the IP gear a tooth), and generally the IP lines will more or less hold the IP in place, even with loose nuts. It'll vary, yes, but not enough to cause this. What is much more likely is going from 'somewhat...

    What is it?

Just remove the module for now, and make sure it didn't short out the power to the fuel shut off solenoid on the IP, or the truck will never run.

Check for a stuck injector? Crack each line in turn and see if the engine tone/noise changes?

1986 econoline 350 6.9idi experiencing steady blow by under load. Thoughts?

OK, if this smoke is coming out of the exhaust, you have retarded engine syndrome - the IP/injectors are *very* worn, and the timing is extremely retarded. Basically, it's time for an IP/injector replacement. Now, it's totally possible to just advance the IP about 7 degrees, which will clear a...

    HELP! Banks Sidewinder TE06H.

If you want something that'll put out a peak of around 27 PSI(and really nice low end, even without much fuel), a BW S360 with a 0.63 exhaust housing will do nicely. The .83 housing never spooled well for me with that turbo. Alternately, I know that R&D IDI Performance sells turbos at various...

Do People Buy 7.3 IDI Engines?

They are worth what people believe them to be worth. They go for all kinds of money - from wrecking yards that seem to think them worth 1K, one wrecking yard near me wants ~400 for one in working condition, and I've picked up many in the 175-225 range. I also got two 6.9s for $100 each...

"demountable" hubs vs standard 8 lug on Trailer

I like those 14.5" MH-type tires. Small, lots of load capacity for the size, and they are tough. Now, I'm not hauling as far as any of you guys with them, usually less than ~200 miles round trip. But, my triple-axle beaver-tail trailer handles a load quite nicely. I hauled 12K on it last time...

    Rear Axle Question

You'd just get a front axle out of a 250 or 350, with all the brackets and such and weld them, just like converting any 2x4 to 4x4. Alternatively, I've seen an occasional 2wd 4x4 conversion to dually - slap spacers on there and go! 'Course, it won't increase the GVWR or anything legally, and...
