    Whiteish blueish smoke at WOT

Got another injector to swap out with and see if you can eliminate the problem?

    Whiteish blueish smoke at WOT

Is the pop pressure similar? Does it leak down and drip when you try to hold, say 1,400 psi?

    Hydroboost compatibility

    I used one off an 03 6.0 E450 van: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1306283-how-not-to-do-hydroboost.html

    Whiteish blueish smoke at WOT

Remember, the more the cam actuates, the more retarded the timing. So, you want to make it actuate less at first - try rotating the cam a little backwards(top towards the front of the motor), so it happens later and you get more advance down low.

Humidity is my engines best friend

Go check out Banks video: Air density is important. More cooler air = more power. This is why if you want more power, add a turbo. Then intercool it!

    Whiteish blueish smoke at WOT

Generally blue smoke is retarded timing, especially at the upper end like that - your pump just can't advance the timing enough to compensate for the shorter piston cycle. Advance the IP a little, check out the WOT smoke/feel, then probably need to adjust the light load cam to compensate and...

    Another Interesting IDIT Failure

I'm guessing mainly gas engines? Part if it could be not letting the engine cool down after working it hard, so a bit of oil cooks in the turbo. Cooked oil = not so good. IDIs, well, unless you really try, you are probably going to end up letting the turbo cool down before shutting it off...

Anyone put both batteries on one side?

I'm liking the Costco Interstates - 42 month warranty(free replacement), <$100, 850 CCAs. Obviously, you may need a Costco membership(or friend with one) to purchase.

    Another Interesting IDIT Failure

If, say, the rubber grommet in the valley pan leaked, wouldn't that cause the same issue? I did see that on one JY motor I pulled, which evidently had the CDR pulled and left open for a while. Quite a bit of rainwater ended up in the pan due to that.

    ATF and Diff oil recommendations

I'm guessing it's probably due to the fact that until recently, you saw "15W40" conventional and "5W40" synthetic. Rarely "15W40" synthetic(though Amsoil now sells it). 5W40 will go through leaky seals like mad. See... I have multiple leaky engines. I once went "hey, Mobil 1 synthetic 5W40 TDT...

    Another Interesting IDIT Failure

It might be worth boiling a bit of Lucas down(like, on the stove) and see what happens. See what it does when exposed to way-too-high temps. Also, worth trying for regular engine oil. I will say that in my experience(I've had a couple times where Lucas was... necessary, like when I put a front...

    Banks Turbo Flange??

    It's a flange for 2 3/4" if I recall. Not a 3" and not a 2.5"

    injection pump

OK, next step: Get the truck back, or do it yourself while in the parking lot. Most shops have no clue what they are doing, honestly. First, check that you've got fuel to the IP - so just crack the low-pressure line right at the IP, to make sure it's bled. Second, crack one injector line right...

    Drives a mile then dies

Heck, want to do a good isolation test? Get a jerry can, strap it to the front grill. Run hose from the jerry can to the lift pump inlet, and a second line from the return rail to the jerry can; this way you can run the engine using a known "clean" source of fuel, and isolating the tanks, lines...

Anyone ever had a plugged exhaust?

Hack it off, see how it does... and then(if you don't have a turbo) install a flow-through glasspack style muffler.

Old BRAKE fluid. The clutch systems in these use Dot3 brake fluid for their working fluid.

Flushing rust/buildup from radiator, thermocure experience?

One thing I did that sort of worked was to pull a radiator, flush it with a hose a few times. Then, I rigged up a flush "cycle" system going from a 5 gallon bucket -> hose -> water pump -> hose -> lower radiator inlet -> up through the radiator -> out the upper hose and into the bucket...

Vacuum Pump removal process, V belt

I will agree that impact + puller is nice. However, before you use an impact on your puller, get some wheel bearing grease and lube those threads up. If they are dry or mostly dry, you have a decent chance of galling when you try to put a bunch of force on the nut(and your impact can put a lot...

    Timing advance arm

So... Advance the base timing by rotating the pump towards the passenger's side? You'll have to go quite a ways to correct that sort of issue. Get it adjusted right with the timing advance cam such that it's at max retard at full throttle. Then, adjust the timing advance cam to taste for...

    CDD DB4 Pump Build

I know I'd like to see ratings in CCs at 1400 and 2800RPM - the last being the most critical. And, as far as standards go, stock 7.3 lines(which may be bigger than 6.9 lines, but are easily available), and some sort of standard "off the shelf" injector at a nominal pressure. Of course, the...

torque spec for water pump pulley bolts

Just be aware that the 4 middle bolts(marked "seal these bolts" on the diagram above) have only a thin welded nut on the back of the front cover plate, and can easily strip out if you over torque them. The rest have a lot more threads and can handle more. So, just be really careful with those...

    Return line kit

I don't like vasoline/petrolium jelly, because while it works, it only works once - As soon as you get the engine hot, it'll dissolve/melt, and be gone. Next time you 'disturb' the caps, it'll leak. With the wheel bearing grease, it stays in place. I've pulled and reinstalled the caps on...

    Return line kit

I'm going to be the odd one out here - I buy the absolute cheapest kits off Ebay(~$25 range). Lube the O-rings and inside of the caps with wheel bearing grease, slap it on, and you are good to go! The lube used makes so much difference it's not funny.

    7.3 timing and egt???

I suspect you are right, depending on the case. It really depends on N/A or turbo, and more importantly what the 'dynamic' under-load timing is(which is a combination of fuel pressure, throttle position, transfer pressure in the pump etc). I've noticed that turbo setups like it just a hair less...

    Idi Reman engine supplier options

Turns out, the tolerances on a *stock* engine are so tight that if your valve recession is like .010" below the min spec, you will have a valve imprint on your piston. After learning that, I'm of the opinion that I want my valve recession to at least max spec, if not .020" deeper - there's...
