    Proper coolant 7.3 IDI

Searching keywords like "coolant" and "fleet" or "charge" seemed to turn up page after page of irrelevant threads. The information may be here, but it is buried among other topics. i suppose I will keep digging.

    Proper coolant 7.3 IDI

I replaced the thermostat and radiator on my recently acquired '91 7.3 Turbo. I have flushed with distilled water several times and need to fill it back up with the proper coolant. The previous owner gave me a half empty bottle of Peak "fleet charge" that is pre-charged with SCA from when he...

Running Warm Under Load; Using OEM gauge location vs Overtemp sender for gauge?

I'm quite certain it has never locked up. I know what it should sound like when locked and I've Definately never heard it. While the fan work g properly will probably keep me under 250*, I'm still a little apprehensive that it will keep me as cool as others are claiming to be. If the fan really...

Pre-turbo. It's in the pipe that bolts to the drivers side manifold.

Running Warm Under Load; Using OEM gauge location vs Overtemp sender for gauge?

In my truck between the o-r in normal is about 210*. Perfectly safe I didn't realize the fan clutch would partially engage, I guess I was thinking it was all or nothing. I've read that some of the aftermarket clutches can be bad out of the box. A motorcraft yb467 should be pretty reliable...

Running Warm Under Load; Using OEM gauge location vs Overtemp sender for gauge?

I found a motor craft fan clutch for $90 so I am about to order one. I just can't see how a fan clutch would help keep me as cool as some guys are saying. I can hit 220 unloaded if I maintain speed up a hill. I can't drive easy enough to keep it under 205* around town. If the fan clutch will...

Running Warm Under Load; Using OEM gauge location vs Overtemp sender for gauge?

Good point. What I drained out was precharged with SCA, but I wanted to switch to gold ELC. I figured I would need to completely flush the old stuff out because the ELC is not compatible with traditional stuff. I thought it would be a good idea to run water for a couple days, but didn't even...

Running Warm Under Load; Using OEM gauge location vs Overtemp sender for gauge?

Since its going to be close quarters, I may just pull the radiator anyway. I only filled it back up with distilled water for now, so I wont be losing any good coolant. And its fairly easy. With my luck I'd poke a hole through the middle of it wrestling with the fan.

Running Warm Under Load; Using OEM gauge location vs Overtemp sender for gauge?

I have no idea about the timing. However, doesn't that cause exhaust temp to run too hot before anything else? I've never seen EGT over 1000 on this truck, and very rarely over 850. From my Powerstroke background where anything under 1350* was safe, this truck runs very, very cool on the EGT...

Running Warm Under Load; Using OEM gauge location vs Overtemp sender for gauge?

Just got back home. Took a different route home from the park to avoid the interstate, but that wasn't a very good idea. Immediatey after leaving the park, there was abot a 4 mile stretch of road that really had the truck working hard. I was going slow (30-35mph) to try and keep temps under...

Running Warm Under Load; Using OEM gauge location vs Overtemp sender for gauge?

It doesn't have much of a fan shroud but it looks OEM. This does remind me,though, that the fan shroud doesn't sit quite right on the champion rad. I could seal up the gap with some foam tape or something but I doubt that would keep me 20* cooler. Side not.... EGT stayed around 700-800 most...

Running Warm Under Load; Using OEM gauge location vs Overtemp sender for gauge?

Unfortunately, the truck ran quite warm today. It's a shame, I can tell there is more power to be had but I had to stay out of the throttle to keep water temp down. Made most of the trip around 55-60mph with water temp between 220-230. If I tried to maintain 65 even on relatively flat terrain, I...

Running Warm Under Load; Using OEM gauge location vs Overtemp sender for gauge?

I'm not worried at 210*. What worries me is that if it runs 210* empty, it will run too hot when I'm working it. I'll find out in a few hours...

    Manual High Idle/Advance

In case anyone searches this in the future Ill add an update: My factory harness had been cut at the junction where the high idle solenoid wires into the factory harness. I didn't realize this until I cut into the loom to reveal what was underneath. The two wires appearing to go to the high...

    Cold Timing Advance not working

Guess I should update this in case anyone comes across this thread while searching in the future. I found out what was going on. I had to dig into the factory loom a little bit but not too far into it. The previous owner had rigged up a manual high idle switch, and completely cut both wires...
