Find a wrecked one and transfer all the interior over or...
Got R done. Took an hour+ to drill 4 holes even with new cobalt bits. Sort of a PITA all around but I think it will be well worth it. I am considering doing the front end as well.
Started installing them tonight. Ford frame vs harbor freight drill bits..Frame 1, drill bits 0. I got one side done. The hole drilling is the worst part.
Yep he has that one on Truckpaper for 16k. It would cost me a grand in fuel to get it home probably. Not an allison fan but it is just about perfect in every other way. I think if I deal with brakes and wheel/tire with my truck it is adaquate for the times it would haul it all...
All I really need to do is stick an F-450 Dana 60 under my front end, (mine has the 50) get the F-450 rear hubs and brakes all around and run 19.5 tires and I should be good. A 7 speed would sure be nice though. Unloaded I am always looking for that next gear.
Duke - what do you think of those conversion photo's? Earlier in the thread..
I found a Ford F-700 4x4, early 90's but a gasser. Not a crew cab either but lots of frame to add one. Since I have a truck camper the 4x4 is a nice feature but really detracts from freeway operation and the gear...
Or find a crew cab, find a manual trans - should be able to trade the allison for a manual at a profit, move the rear axle and repaint to taste..Has a Cummins already. When you go that far you are really only after a VIN, a good frame and some good components that can be horse traded...
I think a RTOO-913 would be just about right. That is a Roadranger rated for over 900 foot pounds and the last 2 gears are overdriven. I don't know what sort of bell comes on a 466 but if it is a SAE type then a Roadranger ought to be able to fit. Shifter, air, controls and all that would...
Now I found one close to "home" - not where I live but where lots of family lives.

That thing looks well...like ass but it probably tows great. What about the front axle? Seems like replacing an engine with one that weighs 400-500 lbs more is going to cause problems. The F-650 pickup guys run a Marmon Herrington. I imagine if you could find a military axle that had readily...
The new GMC's look ..interesting. I do like the short turning radius, other then that it is just a Gay Mans Chevy. They are starting show up here in SOCAL. From the numbers an F-550 still looks like it has it matched in that range.
