My experience with a dead lift pump is it runs after the pump quits until it is turned off and will not restart. Good advice to start with a jerry can and eliminate that. Make sure the pump return line isn't blocked in the pump. Make certain the shut off has power like has been suggested.
Tire shine can sometimes stop a squeaking belt. That assumes it is in good shape to begin with.
We have a customer at work who has a 97 ambulance. I've gained a lot of wiring experience lately.
Checked all glow plugs with a halogen headlight. Bad one is in #8. Will power that headlight through the glow plug harness. Looks like a compression test is next. Injectors all make noise during buzz test, some much louder than others. No codes set during test.
Tried to start this beast this morning. Rainy, 9C,(48F). Checked oil reservoir, normal. Cranked after glow plugs for 10 seconds. Tried to fire but died. Oil reservoir still good. 10 seconds more cranking. Still good. Didn't fire at all.
Got scan tool from shop. No codes. ICP reads 2800...
So much for one theory. Oil reservoir is full after a 4 day sit. Cranked for 10 seconds after wait to start light went out. Fired a handful of cylinders then nothing. Gave up and let it sit.
Reservoir has always had the proper amount of oil when checked. Vehicle was driven about 20 miles after we worked on it to work out air.
The longer this thing sits, the harder it is to start. Even after the drive it idles like it is only working on 7 cylinders at most. Customer just wants it...
