so there's a fuel pick up strainer thing that deteriorates in the 7.3 IDI
great
whats the deal and how often are you supposed to change them
are they an actual pump mechanism or is it just a float and strainer set up

thanks

It's a black plastic inverted funnel on the end of the pick up tube. If your truck runs out of fuel at about 1/4 tank there is a good chance the pick up has failed. pull the float and pick up assembly out and replace the pick up with a piece of 3/8 fuel line and put a brass or nylon T on the bottom of the fuel line. I tried cutting a birds mouth in the end of the fuel line and that is a whole 'nother story. Good luck and Merry Christmas.

yup
the rear tank runs out at 1/4 and the front tank get kinda funny about 1/8
I"ll have to pull those apart and do that
thanks for the tip
the sending units are 130 each on the diesels so if I can get away with a T and some screening I'll be about 3 bills ahead

cheers and thanks for the tip
