Hey everyone,
I get this roaring sound when I decelerate with my idi and I'm starting with the basics.
I opened up my pumpkin cover and drained the old oil. I found about 2.5 quarts in there. Gears look in good shape. Worn but good shape. About 1/4 of play in the pinion, I spun the shaft by hand while watching the yoke... Its nice and wide in there so I got a nice view of the pinion gear. Meshes great...
So, I laid a bead of rtv on the cover and put it back on. Where the hell is the fill plug?
I've got 8oz of Motorcraft LS additive to put in there, and I've got lots of 85W-140 gear oil to dump in there until full. I hope that's gonna fix my noise.
I thought it would be the dmf/smf thing that makes my truck sound like a schoolbus but I gotta try this first.

edit - okay you can't see the pinion in the pic but I saw it when I had my head in there lol...So, I laid a bead of rtv on the cover and put it back on. Where the hell is the fill plug?
