I'm looking around for a exhaust package for the 6.5td. I am wondering what size pipes you guys are running. I know anything I buy will have to be modded, but as long as the big bends are mandrel bent, I can work with lengthing/shortening the rest. imho, the 3" on my ford IDI is a little on the restrictive side, but I don't have any real comparison for the chevy. The service truck is just able to get out of its own way but I like a little more oomph for the project blazer. Anybody with experience on the 6.5td who can provide constructive feedback?

Do you want or need to run a Cat? I dont think the stock exhaust on a 6.5TD was any bigger than 3". Do you have a downpipe source or do you have to do a turbo back system here?

kitty? what kitty? :D
the downpipe issue is still being worked out as I am typing. If I use the stocker turbo I will have a pretty sharp bend right at the turbo exhaust outlet. If I go for the TE06H(Banks Gen2) turbo off the IDI, the outlet will come off the side and the bend for the downpipe won't be as severe. Bottom line is the downpipe will be a custom job. I can't get around that. The rest of the system will be a prefab.

After talking to Ken from DPS at the 2004 IDI rally he said that 3" pipe on a 7.3 IDI turbo was just about right. 3" exhaust pipe then 4" tail pipe. 4" from the turbo back would really just be over kill. 3" is big enough until the exhaust starts to cool then 4" after that would be better. At least that's how I remember the conversation.

I will be running a 3" downpipe. Its already a pretty tight fit. thanks for the info tho. I am still working on where to blow it out to 4" on my truck. The chevy is prolly gonna be the same.

On mine I switched to 4" from where the
cat used to be, and brought it out in
front of the rear wheel. Put it out behind the
rear wheel and you'll still have some hearing
left when you get to where your going.
It sounded nice in town, but on a long
pull up a grade it was kinda deafening.
I don't think 4" was nessasary, but,,,,,,,,

was that before or after the goat got shoved into it? Around town(Hamilton, tx) goat powered trucks are deafening with the exhausts they have on them. wished my furd sounded that good -cuss In Kalifornia, my Furd gets the truck cop's attention tho :puke:

On my '93 I cut up some stock Dmax exhaust. I made a downpipe out of it and made the rest fit into place. It's 3.5" and has decent bends in it.

towcat, that was the last one, (white truck) before the
goat. It used to have a 6.5td in it before the exorcism.

here's my solution guys.
got a Banks kit off a '96 CC dually $200
down pipe is cut and splice off a Furd IDI gen2 Banks.
assorted elbows and 45's from the local parts house.
