Which leads me to it could be the torque converter. On the Bronco 2 I had, it would try keeping the converter locked when coming to a stop. This gives similar every now and then. Be sitting at a stop and it'll dip down the engine like it's trying to lock up.
The early versions had that shudder at low speeds because it liked to try to hit high gear asap. They did a tune update that would hold the gears longer.
The tow/haul mode is great. Has a decently functional engine brake feature.
Then also has the manual mode where it'll stay in the gear you put it in.
