slector valve

It is usually on the driverside inside frame rail in front of the front tank.
I am not sure but i would think it would be a Ford part.
You should have stuck around, Last night we changed Mels on the Moose Truck.

Ford no longer carries crap for any of the IDI diesel trucks.
You can find the selector valves on ebay every once in a while.
Ford used to charge $375 for that valve.
Borg Warner also makes one that you can use, I have one on a truck I bought. I dont know what the number is. But thats another option.

both versions are still availible at the stealership I go to.
one version uses the hose clamps, the other uses the "clips".
my cost is $150 for the one with the clips.

No kidding towcat?
There's only one dealer around these parts that wants to carry anything for vehicles over 10 years old.
I have an extra one too, but since my dealer here told me $375 for that valve, I am gonna keep it for extra.

That's why I created the "parts bin" in the articles section.
There's many stealerships who don't want to hassle with the older stuff, so they will tell you a)obsolete b)the price will scare you off.
I've worked at a GM stealership parts counter and I can tell you that the older stuff is a PITA to deal with compared to the newer stuff. The newer stuff is very straightfoward and the margins are much higher.
btw....I have alot of updating to do for the "parts bin" when I have a couple of free moments.

You need to deal with Stoner Wade--that's the dealership Mel uses. He needed one since his failed on the way here. One call and 4 days later it's here in Rising Sun and installed.

Hey Mel, why don't you give us your guys info. With their customer service, I'll order from them too.

all the diesel ones I took off said diesel only.
as the new one for a 87 up I have here says diesel only.
biggest dieefernce 83-87 is the hoses are clamped on, and 87 + they have quick connects.

FWIW
through advance auto there is a universal 6 port that will work.
even has the wiring hook up for the senders and all.
