When trying to start my 7.3l sometimes it fires right up. Other times it does not, it does not even sputter or seem to want to start. I dont see any fuel leaks and the glow plugs are new. I beleive it is a wiring issue. What would keep it from starting?

Norve,

What year of truck do you have... It seems like I remember hearing that 93-95 had wiring problems...

That might be what is causing you tranny to act up also... I don't know though... I am not familiar with the older year of trucks.. but the guys that know most everything about them are on this site... They should be around in a bit to help you out...

On Edit:

I just went back and looked to see you have a 90.... Hopefully 95stroker or Argve will be around with an answer...

There are two wires on top of the pump. one should be hot any time the key is on. That is the fuel shut off solenoid. The other will only be hot when the motor is under 112 degrees f. That one in the cold timing advance. At times you may not have power to the FSS wire...
