In the process of swapping a 93 factory turbo motor in a 92 chasis that was n/a. Got it all put back together and tried to crank it over but the starter will come out and turn the flywheel about 1/4 inch and stop. The 93 motor has smf and came with a burnt out denso starter and the n/a motor had a mitsu stater tthat im trying to use that is in working condition. This is driving me crazy and im sure its something simple but i just cant figure it out.

Put a 15/16 socket and breaker bar on the damper nut and try turning the engine one revolution. Insure it will turn completely one time.

Engine ground?

A weak ground connection will generate heat at those high starter amps, which raises the resistance until your starter doesn't get enough juice.

I'm assuming it turned over by hand like icanfixall recommended...
