Are you planning to bore the cylinders .030 oversize? Thats what those are.

a deeper cup would lower compression and allow for more boost, but i dont know how much of a difference in compression it would make

Yes they are going .030 over. Engine is in the machine shop with nmb2 rotating assembly. well this block is already at .020 over and that's what nmb2 pistons are. So it would work but my shop says it would be at the high end of the tolerance because of the taper in the bore. so new pistons here I come .030 over. Got to ceramic coat these and get everything balanced again

One piston has machined cups one has cast cups, my thoughts, the cast set is better, too many sharp edges in the machined pistons cup, this can lead to cracking!

I'm not sure why there is a difference however I'm thinking I'd got with a Mahle piston myself which is whom made the originals for our engines!

Por number 5 above makes the best sense to me and I completely agree. Mahle or bust for me too. If they worked so well oem they are what I want and will use too.

Well I ordered the "badgers" they come with a steel insert for the top ring cast in, and I've been trying to buy mahle for a week with no luck or even a reply to emails so that's why I chose another avenue these still have to be milled .030 ceramic coated and the skirts are getting Teflon...
