I recently replaced the 6.9 in my 83 F250. The truck ran ok when I bought it, but it smoked until it warmed up and had a high rpm miss. When warmed up, it ran a little over 40 psi oil pressure at normal driving rpm, and dropped to about 25 at idle. Shortly after I bought the truck, I picked up an 83 6.9 from a local shop that pulled it from a K5 Blazer. The guy was doing an LS swap. He said that it ran fine when it came in the shop, but he wasn’t really a diesel guy.
The motor sat in my garage for a year until I finally had time to pull the original motor and put in the new (to me) one. I had to swap the water pump, starter and accessories to complete it. It runs great, but has a bit more blowby than I’d hoped.
The old motor had the tach sender and the new one doesn’t. My question is - can I swap the IP housings to re gain the tach, or do I have to swap the entire pump?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Swap just the housing, do not interrupt the pump gear. You will have to pull the pump to remove it as you know.
