Above is a craigslist listing of a 1983 Chevrolet 6.2L diesel, the ad claims to have just 88K miles on it, I was wondering before even considering an older diesel chevy, what do I need to know about these trucks, and what are the problem spots involving the mechanical issues of the truck.

Thanks in Advance guys!

Oh, Wow! A coniseur of fine diesel smoke. I wonder if he's a collector, or a mass producer, like some of our cohorts?:rotflmao

if it is a trully is a '83, the motor has many one year only parts.
even though I've owned quite a few chevy diesels over the years, they were always valued as unwanted stepchildren. $2k is alot for the truck.

If it says 88k it probably means 188 or 288. Check the brake pedel, if it's worn through the pad it's 288, if it's 1/2 way it's 188, if its just the grooves worn it's 88. These are tried and true but not perfect ways to tell. another way is to look on the title, over 100k will say "Excededs Mechanicle Limits"
