besides the obvious injectors and old smokey pin, what performance things are available for the first gen cummins? What about a bigger down pipe? Intake horn?
Various things ranging from manifolds, intakes, cold air, turbos, exhaust, fuel pump increasing, timing is a big one, they have a couple chips for them, though i wouldnt recomend, expecially if you have a 5 speed.Auto there decent in, still wouldnt recomend one though.Hope this helped
Well you can get a new turbo compressor housing that's supposed to help a lot with spool up. There is someone (can't remember who) that makes a 4" system from the turbo back for 1st Gen trucks. You can go with a mild injector such as the Bosch 200hp units (will give you about 40hp over stock), POD injectors, and such. A nice simple driveability help is tweaking the smoke screw which will give oyu more low-boost power cause it dumps fuel sooner. You can also adjust your fuel delivery screw to get more power without having to go into the VE pump. There are plans for a high flow air filter system...so a search for "Old Smokey mount" and you should find plenty of reading material. And of course your gages are mandatory for any type of power increases. The real weak link is the Getrag, but if you don't go extreme with the power you can probably be OK with it and a decent clutch. There are also conversion kits out there that will let you replace the Getrag with a NV4500.
A big helpful place is Piers Diesel. They know their stuff there and are willing to answer questions.
