I was working on replacing end seal on tranny so decided to do u joints too. Anyway, got the slip yoke off the driveshaft and the damper thing on it looks like hell, also the slip yoke seems to have a gash on it. It looks to be past the seal area but was thinking of just replacing it while its all out to be sure its good. On ebay i dont see any ford slip yokes with this same damper. Can it just be safely replaced with one without the damper?

my attitude is an engineer at ford had to fight tooth and nail to get that part approved by the bean counters. it must be there for a reason.

You know all that rackett the manual tranny makes and the dual mass flywheel tries to get rid of? I bet that damper helps with all that also when you are in gear and lugging the engine.
