non functioning high idle advance and timing advance

12v Power jumper to them activates both so the units them selves are functional. Where do i look to find what activates them?

Your temp switch has failed most likely. It's down on the block between the IP and the thermostat housing. You will find a plug with 2 wires on it.

Check the coolant temp switch with ohm meter when cold, if no continuity the switch is bad. Also jump the connection when cold key on to make sure you have power to the switch. I bet it is the switch.

wgargan--the top off a 5.7 gm diesel is the same-----the interior coil looks diff---but works the same---been there---just make sure you put it back together correctly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! only might have to change the exterior fitting---

Great thanks. Any clues one where to find one? or at least what key words to search for?

Advance Auto Parts or about any other auto parts store...."Coolant temperature sensor" $20 - $40 depending on where you go and which brand you buy.

Sure you could get a GOLD plated one from the local Ferd Stealership too.
