I put a new to me 7.3idi into my truck the other day. I got it started and it runs rough. It is also blowing greyish smoke for a while. I had replaced the #1 injector because the hard line going to it was all twisted and coiled.
I put the new line and one of the injectors out of my old motor in it. I hooked my turbo (banks sindwinder) on this motor. I had to use the port in front of the IP for the little valve thing. (what does that do anyways). It should be the same as the tuna can looking thing on the back part of the intake. I think that I am getting the blue smoke from that and not the rings.
The other day I was test driving it to see if the smoke would clear and it smoothed out and stoped smoking. It sat for one day and I had to prime it to start it earlier. Today it kept smoking out of the tailpipe, I did drive it down the road and it stoped while accelerating but once I let off it would blow smoke.
