Well I got the 85 XLT 4X4. Now I begin the investigation into what is there and what I have to fix.

The tag on the door says:

GVW = F268
Trans = K
Axle = G2
Spring = 9GK

Can some one decde this for me please?

If you can give the full VIN I could probly tell you more, but:

Trans: C6 3-speed Auto
Axle: Dana, 4.10 Limited Slip, 6300lb GAWR
Springs: All I can tell is G code rears with overloads

If you can get the full Vehicle Identification Number, I can tell you a whole lot more...

Front Axle is probably a Dana 50 and Rear Dana 70

Regular cab may be a Dana 44.

that would be my guess, if the hubs are almost the size of the wheel hole they are dana 50 (same size as dana 60 hubs). if the hubs taper down to about 3-4" it is a dana 44.

It has a 44 in the front and a 60 in the rear as far as I can see at this time.

This is going to be my farm truck mostly for hauling around home most of the time.

That 60 may actually be a 70. See if you can find anything stamped on the pumpkin near the pinion or webbing.

I have a '85 F350 4x4 and I'm clearing LT315/75R16 (35") tires without a problem. I want to put the 4" rearches springs from the '86 on this truck and upgrade to 38" tires when I wear these ones out.

this is fords vin lookup site the one the dealerships use

That's a cool link. I'm bookmarking that. It'd be a good one to add the the FAQ's.

I also think you have a Dana 44 and a Dana 70. I'm pretty sure Ford never put a rear 60 on a diesel pickup. If it is not a Dana, then it should be a Ford 10.25 rear. I'm not sure when, but I think '85 was a transition year for the rear axles.
