Went camping this weekend and noticed a grinding sound coming from ip pump never noticed it before. I am taking it to a diesel place to make sure it is on the way out but if it is how extensive is the replacement of one in my driveway? Any help or directions would be great and how long it would take, not at home but have tools.

Thanks

do-able if you have a pump wrench or a 9/16" wrench ground down. grinding sound? better hope no metal got circulated to the injectors. rebuilt pump is around $400. Could be as low as $325 but really depends on the shop's markup. If you don't have a 5/8" flare nut wrench or crowfoot socket, a 9/16" pump wrench, and a 5/16" socket for the pump to gear bolts, have someone else do it. This is not a DIY project for the side of the road if you're not prepared.

I wonder if there is a chance one of your IP gear bolts has backed out far enough to hit the cover? That would be easy to check for yourself. Click the fuel system servicing article in my sig.

I had one of those bolts break off and take out an engine.
It is not too bad of a job to do yourself if you have the time. First try removing the belts and starting the engine. Don't run it long or even drive it like this but listen for your noise. Sometimes a bad bearing in some other compoinent will cary to another spot under the hood.

Took it to a diesel shop the tech couldn't hear it and said the same thing about the bearings on a component, said the engine sounded great and ran smmoth so I may be out of hot water, Thanks for the input!

NJKen, you had a broken bolt take out an engine how? Why would it be such a big deal? I hadtwso of my original bolts pop out and the pump shaft snapped. The only time my truck has made em walk!

just to let you guys know what is up. Had the truck timed was at 3.6 deg told him to put it at 8 and he could only get the pump to 6.2. Said the pump is getting worn out but not faulty yet but couldn't get all performance out of her without a new one. searched for parts here is what I can up with if anyone is looking for the best prices.

IP- usdieselpats.com REMAN #db2-5070 $357.00

injectors- shopdiesel.com G code NEW #ROS30406 29.95 ea

these are for a k code turbo manual trans so if you don't have one these are the wrong part #'s for you but all were priced the same or cheaper.

thanks for all your help guys

the pump price ain't bad....don't know about the injector prices tho. I've never been hung up on the coded injectors but I understand that the "G" ones are the most sought after. Ones I've been getting is about $20...new stadyne.

The letter code for my truck is "E" and when I replaced my injectors I saw a difference in the hole for the return fuel. I had one go bad and had an old one that I was going to return so I would not have to pull injector and the parts house would not take it as they told me that because it had a different code Standyne would not warranty it............. Call Ken at DPS (diesel performance specialists) he has great IP for the turbo engines and they are about the same price as a regular old IP from any one else, the IP's TQ curve is changed a little and polished here and there some. I will tell you, I have the IP MAXXED and CANNOT push mine ot over 1000* empty, and I TRY HARD. Loaded, I can get it up, but unloaded you can drive it like you stole it, and man, the IP just work GREAT. I can't say enough great things about him, he will take care of you and he is a fellow IDI-er, so it is nice to keep the money in the family, if it is only a few bucks. Scotty
