Thanks for the follow up on the engine. Sorry to hear its cavitated too but it sounds like it will be rebuilt and running again.

He already has my spare motor in his truck, just hooking everything up now. At least this way he can find out for sure if it was the oil cooler allowing the oil into the radiator and I don't have to pull it now either. :D He was kind of enough to pull the transmission from my parts truck for me as well.

We got my spare motor fired up last night which is nice since he has to go cut and haul firewood for the next two days. When he gets the other motor torn down I will repost with what he finds.

I'd say Cavitation of the cylinders... similar to what happened to my papas diesel. It happened out of no where. When they went from the 6.9 the increased the bore but not the cylinder walls. Not having the proper lubrication additive with the coolant is kind of like never brushing your teeth if you get my metaphor... we had to drop a new motor in.... my 2 cents.
