It is debatable if the Melling is superior to the stock Ford.

The Melling may have an improved georotor design but the Melling has a georotor only 0.93" thick, the Ford georotor is 1.300" thick. I measured them myself. One of my buddys installed a Mellings with a Twin Terminator and high oil demand injectors (B-Codes) and experienced oil feed problems. Installed a stock Ford and the problem disappeared.

On my new engine with simular injector/hpop setup, I'm going with the Ford.

But I'm a noob so what do I know?

Oh hell, had in mind he was going to check the pickup tube for cracked.

As a check for the pickup tube being cracked, back the truck up a ramp. That will submerge the entire pickup tube so it doesn't suck air. Then try starting.

There's no cracks in the pickup tube every thing I've read is that there will be no start at all with a cracked tube till you do like you said. And this developed while the truck sat

Yea pulled the check ball in the one way valve it was gummbed up and the problem went away
