"Jake Brake" sound....only the ATS or others?

I had an 88 with a wastegated ATS turbo. She was straight piped and the "jake brake" sound it made on decel was awesome. I honestly think that sound can cure erectial disfunction! Anyway, will a 7.3 idi with a Hypermax or Banks turbo sound like that too? I have only heard it on mine and a Factory turboed IDI with no muffler. When I finally get around to turboing the 93 I want this sound again!

Jerry, they all seem to make that noise somewhat about say 1600 RPM or above on decel, but the volume and tonality of it is going to depend on your exhaust more than anything. I think an NA definitely makes it more than a turbo equipped truck does.

Mine REALLY did that through the stacks when I still had them on.

Not so much through the dump it has now, even with the same muffler.

Mine with a banks sounds great coming down the big hill on the highway just south of town with about 10,000 on the trailer. Down shift to 4th and let it rumble all the way down to the exit.
