Is this the Aftermarket ATS kit with the 3" elbow?

Here's a few pics of a truck I bought and towed about 220 miles home with the CC up over the Oregon Coast range.

I'm pretty sure the Turbo has the 3" elbow cause it looks like at least 2 1/2" pipe shoved in there and there is about a 1/2" gap.

I made a youtube video but there is no sound. Do they computer process them for a while checking for sound rights or something?

looks like a 088 kit and if there all the same it should be 2.75" slip pipe. Mine on my truck is.

What's the best procedure for removal?

I've got the bolts off where the oil return attaches to the old CDR mount and the airbox off of course.

It wiggles a little, but I'm wondering, if I remove the bolts at the bottom of the up-pipe, will it all come up together in one piece. Seems like it has more clearance than the factory turbo system I have on my CC.

Does the exhaust up-pipe come apart where it looks like a joint, or is it best to leave that together?

Thank you,Thank you :hail:hail in advance.

well I hate to tell you but I never got my up pipe to come apart from my turbo. I installed the kit on engine out of the truck as it went in my mercury. The down pipe slips out after bolts are removed(or that's how it is suppose to work).
I sprayed creap oil around the slip area and banged around on it for around a hour. Oh I forgot to add that I cut the floor board out of the truck up mid way on the firewall. I hope its easier for you and your truck.

I never got the elbow off my factory turbo exhaust housing.

I never got the up-pipe into two pieces either. But that was an engine I bought already pulled.

This one, I'm thinking I'd like to get the turbo off then pull the engine if possible.

This truck's got to go. It's one ugly SOB and it smells like rat **** in the engine compartment, and we are finally getting summer weather here.:puke:

They are a royal PITA to remove. If you can't get the cast slip coupler to separate (it takes nothing short of a miracle ) you will have to pull the front cab mounts and lift the cab up to get it all out. At minimum you will need to remove the two pedestal bolts that attach to the intake manifold and remove the bolts that connect the turbo to the pedestal along with all the other mounting hardware.

The last "slip" coupler I saw actually separate was under the heat of a rose bud until it was glowing hot--then it finally gave  It is by no means fun, but they are good turbo's imo and its better than nothing at all. Good luck

I run a 088 in my brown truck, or atleast did, and to be honest it puts out more boost than most other guys 093's but I've got all the pipes ceramic coated and I'm running a huge intercooler.

That engine seems super lively, and it seems like it starts up better than my CC engine would with bad GPs. If you pop the throttle it'll hit the gov super quick. Probably in part cause of the huge exhaust leak.

I just got to decide what to do with it. I kind of want to pull the engine and turbo and use them to build something else. Like maybe a 95 CC with a shortbed and convert it from a 460 like my 87. I almost feel like running it instead of my Factory turbo since it has the airbox and I can do cold air a little easier.

Here's a few pics.

I think the trick to getting it out is removing the pass side exhaust manifold, then it just twists up and out.

I sure like the design of the exhaust housing and elbow on this vs. my factory turbo. It just seems more efficient, and looks to have a 3" outlet, rather than the 2 1/2.

So how do I take my fresh rebuilt 093 and combine it with this exhaust and intake box?:sly I'm wondering if the wheels are the same size so that I could just swap my bearing housing and wheel to the 088 setup.

You are making allot more work out of it than it needs to be. The 088 system has a larger exhaust turbine IIRC than the 093 kits. I think they have the same compressor. Maybe i have that backwards. idk
Either way I dont believe its possible to put the 093 chra into the 088 housings. Russ would know for sure though.

Wont fit.

I got a buddy out of work that needs some sterling rear parts if you are scrapping that truck.

Not trying to make more work, just thinking that an 093 would be bad **** with the better exhaust housing from the 088. I think the exhaust wheels are way different also.

I wonder if an 088 dosen't produce about the same power on the low end since even though it should have less boost, the exhaust seems like it should flow better allowing a better gulp of air for the cylinder.

That truck is definitely a scrapper, but it has a D60 rear with 3.54 gears from what I can tell from the code, I wanna say it was 73.

I may have those parts if I scrap my old brown F250, but I probably couldn't get enough money for them if it made it cause I can't flat tow it myself.

This truck was a 460 originally, so I don't even know yet if it's a T-19. I think that's why I was able to get the turbo out from the firewall, it seems like the motor is on custom mounts and maybe a bit forward from a factory one. Has the funny looking wide rad too.

I was thinking the comp wheels are different for sure.

My thought is that if you could use the 093 cold side and bearing housing and hot wheel and bolt it to the exhaust housing of the 088 you would have the low end boost of the 093 with the better flowing exhaust housing of the 088.
