IDI owner looking to buy VW TDI

Hows it going all. Just wanted to get some info on reliability and repair costs with the VW 1.9 TDI. There's a '97 Passat close to me for sale w\ 220K miles on it. What's the life expectency on one of these if taken care of. Any known probs? I've never driven one, so I'm going in cold on this. Any info would be appreciated. thanks
