I need to replace the brake shoes, hardware, brake cylinder and even the seal on the hole brake assembly that is right behind the inner bearing.

Here are some pics. I learned that the transmission parts for this step van are also found on 1989-1991 GMC trucks, could someone please tell Me what year truck shares the brake parts on this axle.
Btw this shoes are 3.5" wide.
Also, the last picture is from the parking brake cable, it gets stuck and won't release or pull the cable all the way back, how do I fix this?

Thank You.

post pics of the front axle.
from what I can tell, this is P30 van. It's the same chassis as a roach coach.
the parking brake cables are no good.

I will get some pics. Do I have to order some new cables then? What should I order them for?

Thank You Calvin.

Btw I don't know what rear axle I have but I read it is the same as a 1ton g3500 van so I order all parts for that. Looks like I would have to pull everything again if I have to fix the parking brake cables, right.

yes you will have to pull the damn drums once again.
i don't think it's a g series, they're unibody. your best bet is to take the VIN with you over to a GM heavy truck dealer while they are still in business and get the cables. after this year, who knows where their knowledge base will have wandered off to.

Looks like a 14 bolt corperate axle from the pics. 10.5 ring gear. There should be 2 different drums. I know the 2.5" width shoe is the 13" drum but dont remember anything else. Just run into your favorite parts house and tell them the above info except for a 3.5" shoe. You will crap a brick when you hear the drum prices...if possible, hopefully you can have them turned ok. Thats what i would do.

14 bolts had a few variations but were pretty much the same from 1973 till they were replaced by AAM axle company in....im guessing 2001-2002. They are very common.

As far as the brake cables go...your best bet is matching some up at a pic and pull yard, or the dealer is your other option. IIRC, the VIN lookup for parts are only good down to 1995, any older and the guy might hafta look at the microfish(sorry for bad spelling) if he is willing to do so. At least thats my case with my GM dealer. You "might" get lucky and spray lots of penatrating oil on the entire length of cable and fart around with it to loosen it up...but most likely, you are stuck replaceing it.

All this is from my GM days and taken from memory. I have slept since then, so dont quote me as gospel.

Good luck.

been playing with the parking brake and I can get it to come back but it will not do it on its own. I found a website and will call them tomorrow and hopefully they'll have them or I'll have to start filling this ones with wd40 and hope the loosen up.

I didn't put the brakes back together bc the parking brake must work to pass inspection here.
I also drained the coolant and refilled with some cheap walmart stuff to flush it a couple times and if it does not mix oil and coolant then I'll put the fleetrite with the dca units. Found some nasty crap on the overflow and a little bit in the rad, looks mostly like very old coolant, dirt or whatever and rust but I want to make sure first.

I ordered the front crank seal with wear sleeve and a gear case gasket so I can tab the KDP and all the bolts in that case then close it.

I also worked a little bit on some of the electrical with some nice fuses to avoid electric fires. I can't get the CB radio to work yet, it looks very old and the antenna is missing there is only a cable. If it doesn't come back to life I'll just buy a new one and slap it in there, I've witnessed the power of a CB radio in bad traffic a couple days ago, saw the truckers go all to one lane and stay there then a few miles away there was a huge accident and all lanes but the one they switched to were closed.

Thank You guys.
