I put together this 2 part vid when I made the change from the 2 650 CCA batts. to the 950 CCA G-31 batts.

The truck is a 87 F250 6.9 L with some original parts, like the battery cables and the return lines! cookoo

I decided to try to buy locally, looked at the marine grade cable and automotive cable, way too stiff.
Checked out the prices and decided to use 2/0 cable from my local welding supply, they also had the correct ends.

Picked up the heat shrink tubing and some solder, right down the street at the electronics supply.

Got the G-31 batteries from Interstate through a friend who is a dealer, the batteries are reconditioned.

IIRC the batts were $100.00 for the pair
Cable and ends $100.00
Solder and heat shrink $25.00
Watching the 6.9 spin that fast, priceless

Took at least an hour to deal with the starter wires and the starter. :rotflmao

Perfectly fine to simply replace your cable-ends.

So long as the cable is in decent shape, there is no need to discard it. ;Sweet

Great Videos!

Do you know what the stock cable sizes are? I'm thinking about just trying to change the ends on the cables for now.

What's this? Something is easier to do on a van than a truck? My group 31's just dropped in, no mods needed for hood interference.

Mine were black copper many inches from the lead blocks and the plastic was flaking badly.

I toyed with the idea of having them closer to the starter, behind the passenger seat, in a vented box, some day....

I used side terminal ends.....works good.

You must be registered for see images

Now, I hadn't considered that. Did you tin the wire before you clamped it?

2/0, that would be two aught?(sp)
Good luck soldering or crimping to black copper wires, it can be done for the short term, but remember "resistance is futile" at 600+amps at starting?
The heat created by the minimal/restricted connection? Heat creates more breakdown of the copper. thus more resistance, more heat.......
Sorry I may be over doing the situation through over-engineering. as usual....

Hope this helps, next the return line cap kit, got the parts, need the time,

You gotta be kidding me, that's a first, easier on a van? (with a 6.9L) they have a weird oil cooler header. I want that van!!!!
