I use the cables for the 235/85/16 tires. I broke two of the X links. You cannot find new ones any where to repair them.
So I got to looking in the Thrift Stores and found a set for a 2013 Ford Escape, Fiesta or something like that. Some little peddle car thing.
The cross links are 14" across, and these are the same, great. Just not a beefy but will work.
Bend up the tab enough to remove them from the piece crimped onto the cable. Slip them on, and beat the tab down.
I have an old body dolly for beating out a fender that is buggered up. Put it under the 2 pieces and beat it down with a Ball Peen Hammer. Better than beating on a Concrete floor.
Last Thursday was coming W/B I-80 towards Reno from Fernley, and there on a wide spot on the shoulder was a pile of new looking chain. Took the next off ramp, and circled back to the next one, Probably a 2 mile go around. It is one one set for a big rig. Guess the guy was removing them, and forgot to pick them up.
