so if I understand, the awg 6 ga direct from the battery to the always hot on the relay should confirm if I have a bad wire, right?

Just simply look at the connectors. It's very easy to tell if they have gotten hot or melted. 10 seconds.

Update:
After a new set of zd9 plugs, a new wire from the battery to the always hot on the relay and a new relay my glow plugs still would not light off over 1 second. Finally done the glow plug controller bypass as described in the tech article and I now have glow plugs functioning. The only thing I can think of is maybe my controller was bad but at $190 from the ford dealership I wasn't going to spend the money when the bypass works just as good. Thanks for the tech article and all your help guys!

Where is Mels Glow Plug tech article? I cannot seem to find it and my glow plugs seem to have taken a dump this week.
